Has anyone had any experience with the Tool Shed house brand tools? I'm looking at a track/plunge saw and some welding kit in particular. It's only a very hobby level, not trade. And while price isn't everything, it is important in justifying new hobbies.

I'm in Wellington, and The Tool Shed is one of the few non-High Street tool retailers with a Wellington presence so that's why I was looking there.

The 18v's looked like the certas that dicksmith/kogan will sell you for slightly less. Im not sure if they are 100% interchangable with the ozitos at bunnings, have read somewhere that they are same manufacturer, but default, stanley and black and decker are the same manufacturer and they key the batteries to make them non interchangable between their brands.

Not seen their welders anywhere else to know if they are a good price or not. but I know someone who had/has a savebarn welder and is quite happy with that. Couldnt tell you which one or which type, it is one that can drive a stick welding option on it so could be any of them.

I have used one of their home brand nibblers for a couple of years for roofing commercially and I've replaced the teeth once. I would never consider a battery powered tool of that brand though. Techtronics from Hong Kong makes the majority of the worlds tools through multiple brands as far as I know. I use Dewalt exclusively for the last 6 years and I'm probably a life long user due to how happy I've been with every one of their tools to date. They seem to be miles ahead in the R & D department every year.

I'd like to say you get what you pay for but every now and then you just get lucky.

Also if looking at inverter welders, if you're not looking for 80% duty cylce all day then a lot of those Asian models will do just fine for most home workshop use. All my welders and plasma torch are BOC branded just because they are a step above the Asian models but If I could afford it I would go for a Kemppi any day.
