Jas777:

They are going to make masks compulsory on public transport at level 1 for all of NZ.

It therefore follows that they should be compulsory in a church, mall, bar, restaurant also.

Of course, you can't drink or eat if have a mask on, but those places have more spread than a bus in NZ.

you  have never been on public bus in Rotorua where 2 people would be a crowd

Common sense is not as common as you think.

There has been a pile of testing in Auckland over the last few days ( over 10K+) now if that's cantered in South Auckland that gives you a really good slice of the population... ( Counties Manukau DHB has a pop of 560K) s 28K tests would be 5% of the population..

With the school still isolated until Monday, If none of them come back positive, it will be looking likely that we will have dodged another major lockdown...

So 4 days on now there *might* be a possible link between a MiQ returnee from some time ago. But needs more testing.

Ae corumba.

Bloomfield is now talking about the possible link to the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland facility.

He says there was a case here in late December. It's worth them seeing if there's a possible link here. He reiterated that this is unlikely however.

"It seems very unlikely because of the time period..."

As above, I think this is more of a academic match.. the strains may be similar but the chances of virus circulation for 6 weeks undetected is pretty low (minimal)

Yuh. Picking they are feeling the pressure from not being able to find a source of nearly all the outbreak cases but the Pullman. No stone unturned, but may be a stone is across the other side of a large pond looking at us funny..

Washington Post: Grocery giant Kroger to close more stores instead of giving workers hazard pay

Grocery giant Kroger plans to close two stores in Seattle after the city passed a NZ $5.50/hour hazard pay mandate for grocery workers, drawing sharp rebukes from local officials and worker advocates who point to the company’s booming sales as the pandemic continues to claim more than 2,000 lives a day.

Kroger, which recorded one of its more profitable years due to strong demand during the pandemic, blamed the closures on the city’s new mandate, saying it would raise costs at the two Quality Food Centers (QFC), which were already underperforming.
...
Hazard pay and other pandemic-related bonuses became popular among corporate grocery and retail giants, amid wider public attention on the plight of essential workers during the early spread of the coronavirus last year. Companies including Kroger, Target, Walmart, Amazon, Rite Aid and Albertsons instituted the policy.

But many companies like Kroger ended hazard pay as the country reopened, declining to reinstate the practice, despite record caseloads around the country. Kroger replaced it with a NZ $560 bonus.

Seattle is one of a handful of left-leaning cities that have sought to address the issue, passing hazard pay mandates for workers at large groceries at the end of January.

The law applies to companies with more than 500 workers and stores larger than 930 square meters. (comparable to a large NZ grocery store)

In California, Berkeley, Oakland and Los Angeles have moved forward similar measures.

First time I agree with the perennial and continual loser, David Seymour

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/300233021/covid19-jacinda-ardern-says-compulsory-qr-code-scanning-being-considered

Mandate scanning. Be a pain but before long it will be normal. It won't solve everything, or a lot, but its helpful when prior to the expected outbreak, the data is there. When we get an outbreak, as we will, a huge scan upsurge offers nothing. We also need to keep the idiots who feel great, getting a test when an outbreak occurs. Hoe many people that feel a bit blah, decide to forego an outbreak test and just stay home and isolated when that involves 4 hours sitting in a car? Plenty I'd say.

I agreed with his End of Life Choice bill. He did a good job of defending it against the 'moral majority' and steering it through. Admittedly it is so watered down that any applicant would probably already have to be dead to qualify, but at least the door has been opened for later improvements. I don't agree with anything else he says or does, but I give him full credit for that one.

'Large scale' problem.

But as we know, it doesn't take long for it to become a large scale problem, as occurred in the previous Auckland outbreak.

I wonder what numbers it can accurately detect down to. Especially as there are cases going into the sewage , eg people infected in isolation hotels. So if they aren't detecting anything, then do these hotels nots connect to the sewage system? IMO we should never be using these numbers for any form of proof that there are no cases in the community. An indicator yes, but not proof. Some people use septic tanks etc too.

The testing is being done at different points so that they can separate out different areas. And yes there are positive results coming from the tests that are looking at the sewerage outflow from the part of Auckland where the Quarantine hotel is - Jet Park.
