Scott3: [Big issue with the model 3 for police duty is the low payload.

Many ICE cars have modifications to engines and undercarriage when converted/built for police use, so it's reasonably safe to assume a (potential) proper police version of the 3 (as opposed to EV's for Green-washing) would have different spec's to the public versions.

Tesla could go the extra mile to sweeten the deal and include app's that allowed use of use of touch screens for accessing police databases etc.

Sounds like Tesla are already onto integration with police tech, and as this video is now a year old the number of superchargers available will have improved since then.

Metlink [Wellington] announces 98 more electric buses for Wellington region fleet

Once the 98 buses are added to the fleet, the proportion of EVs would rise to 22 per cent

Maybe a modified version of the Cybertruk?

Wonder where the money to purchase these is coming from? I thought that the Wellington council was broke. They did have a nice electric bus network but closed it down.

Councils are never broke. They have an inexhaustible supply of ratepayers money (or so they think).

We don't want any Council to be broke, so there's that. But too many have under-invested in infrastructure and it's bitng everyone hard on the arse.

NZ property taxes are actually pretty low. My relatives in Canada pay twice what I pay for properties worth half as much.

Are you meaning city or regional?

Public transport's the responsibility of regional councils, which is why all references in that article are to Greater Wellington Regional Council...

That's good.

However, as a regular weekday bus user on a route where the electric double decker buses are used, in winter, and it has been like this for the last few weeks, they are quite cold and quite damp upstairs, especially in the mornings. Yes, the ICE versions can sometimes be the same too, seems to depend on the driver.

For whatever reason, the electric double decker buses don't have the air con\overhead ventilation upstairs like the ICE version ones do.

I think the noise pollution benefits are understated when it comes to EV buses.. When I was in Christchurch just before lockdown and I was standing at the lights waiting to cross, there was an EV bus waiting too. It was so much more pleasant not having to listen to the roar of a bus take off.

Not to mention the regular pollution you weren't forced to breathe in!

This is good news, Wellington I think had around 60 Trolley buses before decommissioning so to go to 98 with eventually more to come is good.

Yes, that's a given. No black plume of diesel smoke as it took off!
