You will always find these kinds of people if you go looking for them. I don't think this is particularly significant. Unfortunately, the point made about the economy is a valid one. As long as it does well, regardless of the real reason, Trump will be harder to get rid of.

I watched 'All The Presidents Men' for the first time after a long time last night and there is one scene in it where they use actual TV footage showing the White House press secretary berating the Washington Post for, in their view, printing lies because of their political bias.

He only needed to use the phrase 'fake news' and it could have been broadcast yesterday.

Just shows that things have been going wrong for a long time in US politics, not just from when Trump arrived on the scene.

Washington Post - Trump’s paranoid rage is getting worse. But the White House ‘resistance’ is a sham.

extracts...

The mystery Trump administration official’s op-ed piece declaring President Trump mentally unfit to serve, combined with the startling revelations along the same lines that people in his orbit shared with Bob Woodward, have driven Trump into a frenzy and hinted at much worse to come. ...

Perhaps the most pointed charge is directed at Trump’s “amorality.”

As the piece says: “Anyone who works with him knows he is not moored to any discernible first principles that guide his decision making.”

Except in a sense, Trump absolutely does have “first principles,” and these are precisely the problem.

Among them are racism and white nationalism; the prioritization of self-enrichment over all else, even extending to a total lack of concern about foreign sabotage of our democracy, simply because he was its beneficiary; and the corrupt, intertwined convictions that law enforcement is merely an instrument of his political will and that he and his cronies should be protected from institutional accountability at all costs, no matter what damage is done along the way. ...

From CNN today

Overall, just 36% approve of the way the President is handling his job, down from 42% in August. Among independents, the drop has been sharper, from 47% approval last month to 31% now. That's 4 points below his previous 2018 low of 35% approval among political independents in CNN polling, and 1 point below his previous all-time low among independents in CNN polling, reached in November 2017.

CNN presidential approval polling has been consistently less favourable than the rest.

Real Clear Politics show an average 41.3% favourable, 54.1% unfavourable.  It's been pretty constant for months.

That's remarkable given the absolute sh!t-show in the WH and from the deranged POTUS, the convictions, the allegations, whatever.  He's surrounded by more scandal than his predecessors combined over their entire presidency, yet more than a third of americans are okay with that, apparently.

Perhaps the most worrying poll is from Rasmussen.  They don't poll "eligible voters" but "likely voters" - arguably biased, but they were closest to predicting the outcome of past presidential races.  They're showing that 48% of likely voters support Trump.  Their data suggests that 44% "strongly" disapprove of Trump, while only 33% "strongly" approve. A total of 51% disapprove.  That would lose a presidential election - but it won't cause the major upset many people are hoping for in the mid-terms, as suggested is quite possible based on polling data of "eligible voters" by others.

Maybe. Hillary got over 52% of the popular vote last time, so if you map the 51% disapproval to a vote for the other side, it might be a similar result to 2016. Many who support and vote for Trump live in places where their vote counts for more under the electoral college system. If you looked at net approval ratings by electors, I suspect there would be a high number that would be well in Trump's favour.

Hillary actually got 48.2% of the popular vote vs 46.1 for Trump,  But with that 46.1%, Trump won 55.5% of electoral college seats.

What might be good news from that Rasmussen poll of "likely voters" is that significantly more people (44%) "strongly disapprove" of Trump than (33%) who "strongly approve" of him.

IIRC past mid-term turnouts have been low ~ 40%.  People have the chance to hobble him - if they get out and vote - I hope it happens.  With the temperament of a spoiled juvenile, Trump frustrated by a minority house will be great entertainment for a couple of years.  Much better than impeachment.  Then concentrate of locking him and his entire family crime syndicate up after he loses in 2020.

Washington Post - The White House’s new attack on the international system

In his first major policy address since joining the White House in April, national security adviser John Bolton offered a particularly aggressive demonstration of President Trump's "America First" agenda.

He threatened the International Criminal Court, a U.N.-mandated body based in The Hague, with punitive measures should it pursue an investigation into alleged U.S. war crimes in Afghanistan.

He warned that the United States would ban ICC judges and prosecutors from entering the country, sanction their funds in the U.S. financial system and punish any company or government that complies with an ICC investigation into Americans.

In effect, Bolton declared that these officials - including respected jurists and rights activists - could receive the same treatment as certain Kremlin-linked oligarchs or shadowy financiers of extremist groups.

"We will not cooperate with the ICC. We will provide no assistance to the ICC. We will not join the ICC. We will let the ICC die on its own,”
Bolton said at an event hosted by the Federalist Society, a conservative legal group. “After all, for all intents and purposes, the ICC is already dead to us.” ...

[The ICC] may yet become another casualty of Trump's wider war on liberal internationalism.

"It is an all-out bid by Donald Trump to end the ICC, the world’s foremost criminal tribunal, and with it, the very concept of international justice," wrote the Guardian's Simon Tisdall.
"Bolton is the man wielding the knife. And there is a strong possibility they will succeed."
