Hi team

I know next to nothing about Macs.

I have a friend who had a Windows (Vista) laptop die. I have removed the hard drive and all the data is fine and recoverable.

She has replaced her laptop with a macbook and would like the data transferred from the hard drive out of the Windows laptop onto her macbook.

What's the easiest way to go about this?

Or you could just plug into a desktop and copy; but a drive enclosure would give you a spare external drive as a bonus.

Thanks. i didn't think it was that simple. I thought the file systems were incompatible or something....

I have ordered that enclosure so will see how we go.

Mac OS can read NTFS drives but not write to them (without third party app). After you've copied off the data if you want to use the drive as an external with your Mac I'd recommend formatting it as exFat.

Use a drive enclosure and then open "Migration Assistant" and it should hopefully be able to transfer their data across for them.

Have put the hard drive from the laptop into an enclosure and left them to trawl through the data and recover what they want.
