What was the model of Chromebook you bought?

Does NZ Post automatically repack or do you need to specify it?

Pretty sure their repackaging rules state that they only do it if the cost of the repacking fee saves you on international postage

We will only repack your parcel if the money you will save on the international postage exceeds the repacking fee. Items will not be removed from the manufacturer's packaging.

Hmm, I had a package attempted to be delivered today (Saturday for the U.S), but apparently the store wasn't open. I didn't know Youshop wasn't open to receive packages on Saturday..

Funny you say this. Last Saturday (not yesterday), I had an email arrive from NZPOST YOUSHOP at precisely 12PM informing me my package had arrived. At about 2PM time I saw this email and proceeded to pay the $17.95NZD postage for my $13NZD item (yesh I know... but the Mrs wanted some accessories and we thought we would give the youshop thing a go from an Amazon seller in China to ship to the USA YouShop Address and then of course onto NZ).

Anyhow, after paying my estimated ship was about 4 days later then changed to 3 days later. Its still 'comming'.

What puzzles me is that I purchased some software from a Texas USA company on a Tuesday before last and they provided a complimentary backup CD which arrived in excatley 7 days (Tuesday purchase, Tuesday arrival in my mail box) and yesh... its definatlty been shipped from Texas by USPost.

The point I'm trying to make is that ideally I should have got my youshop purchase either Yesterday or at least by Monday. Ok Ok shipping times may vary. Youshop is still informing me the delivery will be after 3rd August.

lol some things are confusing. I had one parcel sent from YouShop, and two days later had another sent. But the later parcel arrived first. And the values aren't high enough for either to be stopped by customs (some headphones, and a cable)

You get a discount if you pay for multiple packages at the same time. I wish they combined parcels together, it'd be an extension of their repack service and would save even more money. I know other services do this, I might check them out some time.

Ok. With the UK version now up and running how do you get on for paying VAT (UK GST) as YouShop UK is not in a tax free state?? At 20% it could get expensive especially if you get hit here as well..

That's a very good point.

In the US sales tax is charged per state, and many states do not have sales taxes.

The YouShop facility is in Oregon so sales taxes in other states do not apply to purchases sent there. In addition, Oregon has no general sales tax.

Thank goodness for American competitive federalism.

Plus you might get pinged GST too. I'm surprised they haven't addressed that. I'd have thought that's part of the reason they chose Oregon for their US operation. As above, I'm interested to hear of anyone's actual experience with the UK service.

Weird. FedEx has a delivery exception for last Friday, saying that YouShop was not available to take the delivery at 8:30am. FedEx tried to redeliver on Saturday and couldn't. Third and final try coming up tomorrow (Monday, their time). Why would the YouShop warehouse be closed on a Friday? NZ Post says its open both Friday and Saturday. Address details are correct so I'm finding this a bit strange.

I made a huge mistake with this order too. I wanted a couple of items from Amazon that they wouldn't ship to NZ. Despite checking, "ship all items together in as few parcels are possible" they have damned well split the order into three parcels. Two of the parcels weigh less than 500g but have volumns of over 1.5kg. One, 420g with order value of $14 for heavens sake! Postage on that one comes in at just under NZD$30. Grrr!
The sooner they offer parcel consolidation the better.

Not quite right. As the goods are to be exported the seller can, if they wish, sell the items with zero-rated VAT. NZ Post is only acting as an export agent and will not be using the goods so businesses can zero-rate for VAT. This involves considerable paperwork so I doubt many companies would agree to do it. Once VAT is charged there is no way for someone from here to claim it back.

The best thing anyone can do is to direct the seller to the NZ Post site for evidence that it is acting only as an interim facility for forwarding the goods and hope they agree to charge with zero-rated VAT.
