Here's a round up of my recent purchases, all via NZ Post

This one was a DHL international shipment

Apart from the Kamo one which went to a RD1 address the rest have been fairly well overnight or 3 days tops. I guess like most couriers it comes down alot to your local driver/area

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

All comment's I make are my own personal opinion and do not in any way, shape or form reflect the views of current or former employers unless specifically stated

Gurezaemon:

I booked and paid for (through Trademe) a parcel pickup from Whangarei (NZPost), to be picked up the morning of the 2nd - 2 days ago.

The parcel is STILL sitting on my front step, clearly visible, waiting for a courier.

You can drop off pre-paid ticketed parcels at your local NZPost.

Some places even have a box inside where you can just put it in and walk out.

But if you do drop it off, let NZPost know to cancel the pickup. You can do this via the email you get from TM when you make a NZPost booking. Something like dedicatedfreight...@nzpost. You could also email them to ask about the pickup, they're usually pretty quick (same hour/day)

Never ever use NZ Post for this, I've both experienced and heard from others multiple stories of NZ Post not picking up parcels from residential addresses. Even businesses are having trouble, got notified from a company in Wellington that after waiting a week for a NZ Post pickup they'd switched the shipping to Post Haste, who picked up the next day.

Given that they're unlikely to even try and pick it up, this probably isn't that critical. For the package I mentioned in my previous post it's still in the NZ Post tracking system, still not picked up, while Post Haste has it halfway to Auckland. The company mailed me to say they were told by NZ Post that it's not going to get picked up so there didn't seem to be much point in cancelling it, and it gives me a reference point to compare Post Haste to NZ Post.

I ended up calling NZPost and apparently their local driver hadn't got to us. They called him, and an hour later, he shows up and grabs the parcel. And then arrives 4 hours later to pick up the same parcel...

I'm not thrilled with the idea of printing off my own labels - that entails lots of annoying messing around with printers, but in retrospect, I should probably just wander down to the local postshop and get them to sort it. At least it will be in the system then.

I ordered something online from Office Max on Tuesday. It was showing as "Ready for next collection" at 10:30 yesterday, it's still showing as "Ready for next collection". New Zealand Post haven't even picked it up.

My wife is waiting for a parcel, it's been sitting at the local depot ready for delivery for over 3 days.

Below is the tracking history of a recent small parcel delivery

from the suburbs of Sydney to me in Auckland.

16 days in total, of which 12 days was for the final 15kms from

Auckland airport to my door at Mount Eden.

What is not evident is whether that first six days wait at Auckland

between arrival at Akld airport and Customs 'processing'

(paperwork only, package was not opened) was NZPost's delay in

passing it to customs, or Customs delay in getting around to it.

However, the delivery cost was only A$19.80, and it arrived safely.

Sad Amazon Au now uses NZ Post to deliver. Don't think I will get my order soon.

By the way, if your parcel is stuck with the last NZ Post depot for a significant time, make an enquiry on NZ Post's website.

Every time I do that, although they sent a generic email reply, I did get the parcel the next day.

Feel like this is a bit of cheating, but if you waited for a long time or desperately want the thing, this is not a bad idea.

Worth a shot, but based on my experience with packages stuck in East Tamaki, no amount of complaining will get them to do their job competently.

In another mysterious case, today we had a PBT package with PBT labels delivered by a NZ Post (CourierPost) van, in NZ Post uniform.

I have found this too, though I also got a phone call (from Christchurch, parcel was Auckland to Auckland) saying sorry, they'd look into it.  Voila!

This was after 30 days waiting, so I do not feel like cheating!

Amazon US, for the latest delivery, has gone with the laughably named Fastway, so it took four days from the US to here and over a week to cross town with Fastway.

Seems they're not picking up parcels in East Tamaki either.

Seems that anyone who is big enough to have a dedicated courierpost pickup is being throttled in how much they can send into the network.

Only for parcels destined to (or from) Auckland.

Applies also to the aggregators like Trade Me Book-A-Courier, ParcelPort and so forth, they got the hard word from NZ Post to limit Auckland parcels or else it seems.

ParcelPort actually posted the message they got from NZ Post "We continue to closely monitor pick up volumes and have noticed you have exceeded your daily limit for consecutive days. We urgently ask you to discuss this with your customers and restrict the amount of freight for Auckland."

The resolution on this, it was delivered today, a Sunday, at 9am. NZ Post can't even pick it up, and Post Haste gets it delivered on a Sunday. Wow.
