It is not cheap, it is average.
Slingshot does 250 GB for 35 $ a month.
I don't think you understood the very simple message I wrote above.
I don't dispute that there are cheapER options than NZnet.
I am still saying they are cheap.
Clear now?
Cheers - N
No, my answer was clear. You are wrong. They are not cheap, they are average, i said.
Their prices will be around the median, 50% of the ISP's are more expensive, 50% are cheaper.
Hence your statement that they are cheap is wrong.
I'm gonna let someone else take this. I suspect not even hard facts could dissuade you at this point.
Cheers -N
muppet: Why did you sign up with them in the first place?
theEd: Based on a bit of quick research of the highest advertised (other than 'unlimited' which are shaped and uncountable) Naked DSL plans on residential ISPs websites, it looks like NZ Net is 4th cheapest.
Cheaper than it are HostingDirect, MegaTel and WorldNet.
I think an interesting trend can be noted that none of the people who seem to be affected by NZ Net's issues (based on this topic) are people who work in the IT industry. All four of these "budget ISPs" are companies that I suspect most of us who deal with ISPs on a daily basis wouldn't choose to be a customer of.
muppet: To those who are convinced that NZNET is not a cheapie ISP, I ask you:
Why did you sign up with them in the first place?
Was it the great customer service? The beautifully designed website? The long, flowing recommendations of others here on GZ?
.
bellyfrog: Don't know where you're getting your pricing info from but doesn't sound accurate. I could add Slingshot to that list of cheaper ISPs immediately and I'm sure there are many others.
Doesn't matter, NZNet is back online and working fully at the moment. Back to enjoying my unlimited non throttled internet ;)
hotkiwi:i dont want cheep stuff. i just want my phone back on! its not reconizing the dns number and its been off since monday when the first incident happened. you may be happy with them but i am not.muppet: To those who are convinced that NZNET is not a cheapie ISP, I ask you:

I find this posting slightly arrogant, and also ignorant.
I signed up with NZNet because:
1. I was with Telstra Clear (Paradise) and their speed was abominable, so i explored why. They told me it was the exchange and they could do nothing about it. They came to my place twice after I pushed them to do so and said it was the copper wire quality along the street.
2. I asked Telecom and they told me that if Telstra said it was the exchange they could not do anything about it either.
3. My neighbour, on the same exchange had good speeds with NZNet.
4. NZNet has its office where I live (Albany) and it was easy for me to visit them and talk about it.
5. They did a great job setting me up and had my Internet working within 6 hours with excellent speed, just like my neighbour. I have not had any problems with NZNet apart from the occassional brief drop in speed or outage over a period of 10 months until this incident happened.
So the great providers you are raving about failed me and many customers and cost of Internet is not an issue for me as it all goes on the account of my business.
Can we now get the issue of going to NZNet becauase as non IT professionals we have no idea what we are doing out of the way? This discussion has turned into a Professional versus non professional thread, where the non professionals are seen as moaners who just wanted a cheap deal and now rightly so get punished for that. i hope that I made clear that reality is different. NZNet prices are average, as I have said a number of times, and for most of us here not the reason to go with them.
