The nests all migrated when the new Pokemon were released, which is cool. Nests can now be Gen2 species. I experience the new "critical catch" where the Pokeball only shakes once and there's a different catch animation (not the circle of stars that normally shoots out). You now get extra candy for evolved versions of Pokemon (5 for 1st tier and 10 for 2nd tier) and 50 extra XP for a first-throw catch.

So many changes!

Had a few lures running at work and started seeing the silhouettes on the nearby and then they started appearing on screen; managed to catch around 20 new Pokemon so far and have a few evolutions already lined up. Only received one evolution item so far, but it will allow me to get a Bellossom

Looks like I need to reset muscle memory, they've tweaked the throw sensitivity I think so that long distance shots are easier.

Despite me having to re-adjust I see this as a good thing - missed out on a 2500CP Dragonite in Cornwall Park 2 weeks ago because it was long distance and I was stupidly trying to curveballs as well. Wasted 25 Ultras before it disappeared.

Hopefully will have better luck next time...

49 Johto Pokemon caught, and either 41 or 42 to go! (6 Legendaries not available, 2 regular not available and either 1 or 2 regionals)

I also note that I finally have a use for Razz Berries as they actually now change the colour of the circle when trying to capture the Pokemon. However the "Banana" Berry is completely useless so any of those received will be thrown in the trash. Looking forward to getting out of Dunedin in order to find some of the newer Pokemon, as there seem to be a shortage of some types in the local area (espy the starters!).

With a heap of changes to movesets, previous "best" have now been neutered and I am now not sure if I want to spend the candies trying the lottery of getting them back.
Also gym battles seem to be WAY slower ..

I'm powering through the new Pokedex. I kind of don't want to get them all too fast after waiting so long for them, but I expect it'll get harder and harder as I get down to just the rares. Had a few epic moments over the weekend. Friday night I caught a 96 IV Crobat with decent CP although not the best moveset. Saturday morning I hatched a 100 IV Bulbasaur, and caught a 98 IV Magikarp. Yesterday I caught a Togetic which was taking a dip in the harbour outside the Sofitel in Auckland. Particularly pleased with that one as I've only got one Togepi and even if I had enough candy, I don't have a second one to evolve. My son, on the other hand, has hatched 4! I'm waiting for PokeGenie to get updated so I can reassess all my existing Pokemon - I didn't have many with the best movesets so I'll be interested to see what happens to them all. Oh, and I got a Metal Coat from a Pokestop while waiting for my son to finish playing laser tag with his friends.

I hope we get some decent mileage out of this release, and that Niantic brings in other things like trading and PVP before too long to keep the game more interesting.

Managed to get three special items and used them in a weekend evolving session - turned Gloom into Bellossom, Onix into Steelix and Scyther into Scizor

No idea if the movesets any of my new Pokemon have are any good - though as it stands there are still only a few Johto Pokemon that can "compete" with the Kanto Pokemon that dominate the gyms (and one of those is a region exclusive - Heracross)

I've purchased some incubators to help the process of clearing out my eggs; after clearing all the old eggs I started getting a bunch of 2km, a few 5km and 1x 10km

So far only one Gen 2 from the 2km egg (rest have been Bulbasaur!); thankfully the 10km egg had Pineco and lots of candy.

Yeah, I've hatched a lot of Gen1 starters since Gen2 launched - two Bulbasaur, and today a Charmander. The 10km eggs seem to be the ticket for Gen2 - I've had a Pineco, Skarmory and Larvitar from my last 3 10km eggs. They seem to be dropping from Pokestops more frequently now.

Edited to add: I've also hatched two Phanpy from 5km eggs.

I've been hatching my 5km eggs in batches of 4 (at least until I run of of paid incubators); generally only getting 1x Generation 2 Pokemon out of these batches.
Got my first Phanpy yesterday and a female Wobbuffet today; also hatched a 10km egg and got myself another Pineco - which is enough to give me another evolution.
Hopefully the 10km egg I have 300m to go on hatches soon and gives me a new Pokemon. (and just managed to get another 10km egg from around work)

Rolled over to level 35 yesterday; I rolled over to level 33 two months ago but did not record when I rolled over to level 34.

Sadly not seeing many shadows anymore - thankfully visiting Christchurch next week, so I hope I am able to get myself the starters ...
The difference in what spawns around the cities is amazing ... but also frustrating.

Last night I also came up with a new naming convention to differentiate between Pokemon obtained before the 17/2 and those after, particularly in regards to Pokemon that used to have the top moveset but now do not due to all the move changes and calculations.

Even though a lot of my top moveset attackers have been nerfed HARD (in most cases going from top moveset to worse moveset), I've decided to keep them around as a good few of them still have very high CP values and can sit high(ish) in gyms, even if only for a few minutes or hours. At the moment I am undecided if I am going to spend anymore candies on trying to re-roll the dice to try and get the same Pokemon with the new top movesets ...

Fingers crossed we'll get the ability to re-roll the movesets at some stage in the future. I need to re-assess all of mine. PokeGenie just got updated so I am just checking if I need to re-scan them all. I won't be chucking out any of my legacy 'mons because I invested a lot of time and stardust into them, and who knows when they might become useful again. They're all high enough CP to get quite high up in gyms, as you say, so if nothing else they'll be good cannon fodder, lol. For now I'll probably focus on getting good Gen2 evolutions and completing the dex again, and then I'll start going for best movesets of each, including Gen1. I evolved a sweet Exeggutor today with Extrasensory and Solar Beam which will be a good Vaporeon counter.

Hatched another 10km and got Miltank, then a 2km (Krabby) and finally 4x 5km and again only 1 Gen 2 (Giraffe thing)

2 more 10km eggs in progress and then I need to find somewhere else to stock up .. around work seems "poor"

In practice re-rolling movesets sounds good, but I could see it boiling down to re-rolling until you get the perfect moveset (which may only last a few months until another change is introduced)
What I wouldn't mind is a slightly lower candy cost for evolving 3 stage Pokemon (something like 25 candy for the first and then either 50 or 75 for the second - rather than 100); that would make evolving for a better moveset less painful.

My other thought on trying for new evolutions - just how many fully evolved Pokemon do I need?
To make space manageable, I set myself a limit of 3 fully evolved and in some cases I am sitting on that already. If I evolve more do I get rid of old or ??

Who would have thought a game that looks so simple could be so complex.

It's only as complex as you make it.

Until a couple of months ago, I didn't even know about IV ratings, just picked up the highest CP of each thing I could get. As a result, I have some pretty low rated Evolutions. I'm not bothering too much about movesets as I don't make much effort to play in gyms. Occasionally I'll drop into one that I'm passing that has an empty slot or hit an opposition gym I'm passing.
I have at least started looking at the IV ratings and am slowly upgrading the fleet. :-)

Would be nice to have the IV ratings within the game instead of having to manually look them up later. The Appraisal thingy gives a bit of an indication, but that's about it.

Yes, I maybe making it too complex - but you know, its good to obsess over something.

Just picked up my 4th 10km egg in a row. Hopefully I get something different in each egg (or Mareep/Larvitar multiples)
