Also turned it on to see what it does.

I'd just be happy if it started tracking distance even close to actual.  Go for a 6km run that was accurately tracked by two other apps on the same phone yet PoGo decided that I hadn't even gone 2km.

It looks like if the game is running, even in the background with Go+ on, then Adventure Sync doesn't work. It only kicks in when the game is completely off. Given that I never have the game off if I'm out and about, AS is not going to do me any good anyway, so I've left it disabled. You can't spin Pokestops without the Go+ on, and I'd rather be collecting resources than counting steps. You still get the weekly rewards, just not the step and calorie info, which I can always check in the Health app if I want to know it.

Had a good afternoon on Saturday. Got two shiny Gengar (although I thought I was going to miss out - I caught them both in the final 20 minutes) and got a good complement of high-IVs from a combo of raids and evolutions. I had a L35 lucky Gastly that is now my biggest Gengar and needs no powering up whatsoever. That one got the first charged TM to Shadow Ball, but I don't have many left so will need to change the rest over slowly. My main problem now is trying to let go of some of the good ones, or I'll have 18 in my inventory, which is a little OTT. My son got four shinies, including a couple with decent IVs. Once I've appraised his haul we'll reroll the bad IV ones between us and then discard any not worth keeping. I'm hanging onto three for a Reddit friend from the US who missed the whole thing because he was on a plane to Australia. He's here for Cyndaquil day so we'll do the trades then. I saved him one of my seven shiny Pinsir, too.

I'll be interesting to see what else Niantic has up their sleeves for us. I wasn't expecting any global rewards for Tainan Safari Zone so the Pinsirs were a pleasant surprise, and I loved the extra spawn points that came along with them. This weekend is Community Day, and then I suspect there might be some kind of event for the launch of Let's Go (which is why I think Community Day is so early this month) and then probably a Thanksgiving event to end off the month. In early December we could get a ground and rock type event, because the 5th is World Soil Day and the 11th is International Mountain Day (lol) and after that, of course, we have Christmas. Plus we are probably getting more waves of new Pokemon.

Europe was good to me; I was able to evolve a Gengar with the special moves just before the event ended; caught up with several people in Amsterdam and was able to get several regionals and a new Unown for my Relicanth. Over the 3 week period I managed to add 19 shinies to my collection and I brought back something like 90 Mr Mimes to trade away.

Sadly the storage upgrade came a little late, I was back in New Zealand when it was live but I immediately took it to 1900 and have managed to hold onto a few Pokemon from the UK and Dubai for distance trading, and still have some 5/10km eggs to hatch from Europe

Picked up my Nintendo Switch on arrival in NZ and have been playing Let's Go - have made it to Fuchsia City so I can now transfer Pokemon from Go to Let's Go, though I am trying to complete the 150 Pokemon via "normal" methods (in game and Switch trading) rather than transferring and catching ...

Sounds like a great trip!

I am in full prep mode for this weekend's community event, getting rid of a good proportion of my potion stash (don't see myself chain raiding Cresselia, lol) to make way for more great/ultra balls and pinap berries. I'll be targeting the big 4 - Dratini, Larvitar, Eevee and Beldum. I hatched a 98% Beldum last week so I'm stoked that I can evolve it to get Meteor Mash. I'll be avoiding the special moves on Dragonite and Eevee though. I'd quite like a decent shiny Dragonite with Outrage, but don't want to TM it off my only one from the original Community Day (it had rubbish IV anyway). It's such a relief to not have to worry about storage so we can sit down at the end of the day on Sunday and calmly appraise everything.

I just caught my Meltan after finishing the quest two hours ago. My son and I went to a local playground overlooking an inlet and took some cool AR pics. He's getting Let's Go for Christmas, but it's good to have one in the dex now so we can receive some in trades without it costing a fortune in stardust. Plus, it's 96% so will make a good candidate for evolution. We'll probably reroll one a day after Christmas in the quest for a lucky or 100%.

If the rumours are true, it looks like we might be getting PVP next week. They moved Community Day right up to the beginning of the month to make way for something - I expected it to be early because of Christmas, but not the first weekend of the month. There's also a winter event coming, as found in the latest APK. I am so ready to evolve my Mamoswine army! I'm holding onto my Sinnoh stones for now. Just evolved one double-poison Roserade with the first but don't really need any of the others yet. In fact, I'm actively avoiding the ones that need better moves like Togekiss and Rhyperior.

Completed mine and my daughters Meltan quests last week.  Guess who got the 100% one.  :-/

Only 7800km to walk to get enough candy since I'm not getting Let's Go. That might take a while. :-p

I don't really need to worry about the extra long Community Day spawns or the 3 hours where a few benefits will be in place; I have plenty of candy, I have enough shinies, I have done the exclusive movesets .. the only thing to do is to trade to get lucky versions of the Pokemon while I have some of the Pokemon in storage to do the trades ..

Did a bunch of trading event items yesterday, managed to get 5 new luckies so it worked out.

Ended up doing the full 3 hour community day; caught some additional (poor) shinies and caught a bunch of Pokemon that would be instantly deleted but I am currently holding onto for lucky trading. One of my goals was to get rid of a 7km egg .. only to complete that as I got home and then managed to get another one when I opened gifts *sigh*

I am not sure what to think of the teaser for "trainer battles" - the timing seems like a smokescreen to mask the Sinnoh Stone removal as a guaranteed reward.
This long slow drawn out process for Generation 4 does not keep people interested in the game - it does the complete opposite and drives people away
I want to be able to get a stone, evolve the Pokemon I have been holding onto for a year or more and then use them in battles .. not have to hope that RNG is my friend and I get one at random (note, I wasn't lucky this week)

Hmm, I'm not sure they'd release an entire game mechanic as a diversion tactic... the PVP announcement for this coming week has been popping up in rumours for a wee while now. Although I agree that dripping out Gen 4 one Pokemon at a time (almost) is excruciating. I get that they want to make the content last, but they're doing it at the expense of making what we are getting no fun at all. Gen 3 was well done, I thought, although they could afford to drop larger waves with that one. Honestly, with trackers (mostly) offline now, they could easily drop the whole generation and people still wouldn't have completed it in months from now. I hope we get a decent drop for Christmas - not that there are many left that can wild spawn. I'm very keen for an ice-type event with perhaps shiny Swinub or maybe even Lapras. I want my Mamoswine army before we have dragons to fight.

I had a pretty good Community Weekend, once I got over the disappointment of the lower shiny limit outside CD hours. I think it could have been a smidge higher - four hours of hunting netted me one shiny Dratini. I mainly spent the time gathering candy for Larvitar, Beldum and Charmander and holding onto every catch to reroll with my son, which resulted in a couple of good luckies. I also evolved some sub-1500s with the exclusive moves, in case I need them for PVP. In fact, I'd better reroll the last of today's catches before I run out of time :)

My community day was one of the best I've had. Managed to get 9 shinys, including 2 Pikachu (these were my first ever shiny Pikachu and the only shiny that I really wanted to get this month while there was an opportunity). Traded one of the low IV Pikachu's with a friend and we both ended up with lucky high IV ones, so happy about that.

I'm not too interested in PvP. If I do use it I'll probably just hook up with a friend and arrange things so that I win one battle and then let my friend win the next; that way we can both share any rewards (I assume there will be some sort of reward, otherwise why bother?).

Well now that we know a lot more about how the new PvP system will work, I must say that I'm impressed with what they've come up with. They really seem to have put some thought into this and I like the fact that people can battle the team leaders as well as friends at a distance and in person. The rewards look like they'll make it worthwhile. I'll probably end up battling the team leaders once a day just for the rewards and not bother battling anyone else.

It's good that they have given solo players a way to battle and earn rewards. I'm super stoked that my Ace Trainer badge, stuck perpetually somewhere in the 200's, will finally come back to life. I'm not bothered that it's not turn-based - not having played the core games, it's not something I'm used to, although I know some people will be upset. At least they've fixed the dodge glitch by just removing dodging altogether. I'm excited to see which of my previously-useless Pokemon will be handy in the lower leagues. I worked out yesterday (thanks to some help from someone at The Silph Road) that my 4/4/14 49% shiny Umbreon will be slightly better than my 14/12/13 87% by virtue of the fact that it can get to two levels higher before hitting 1500CP, making its overall stats slightly higher. I'm also very keen to give my L40 98% Shadow Ball Mewtwo an additional charged move, since they are a permanent addition and can be used in gyms and raids as well. I'll probably add Focus Blast. Sounds like it'll be expensive but maybe less so than powering up an extra Mewtwo with a different charged move to the same level? It means trainers with fewer Pokemon will get more use out of the ones they already have.

Thanks to all of you for doing much of my thinking for me. I enjoy reading the many opinions and tips here.

I also enjoyed the weekend partly because I don't get to do a lot of them and this time was way more interesting.

During the Community Day event, I got my best bag from about 300 catches: cool

100% IV Bulbasaur, Geodude
98% IV Larvitar
96% IV Squirtle

On Saturday, I also unlocked +3 candy for dragon type. It's probably a bit sad that it has taken me until halfway through level 39 to catch the last 43 that I needed to get to 200.

I am actually surprised at how well thought out the addition of PvP seems to be - battles with your team leader, remote battles with ultra/best friends and the extra charge move.

When it launches it sounds like it will shake up the "meta" just a little bit and may involve me NOT powering up some Pokemon I would have otherwise maxed

That's what I am very excited about - the diversity it will bring. And the fact that some Pokemon will be awesome with very little in the way of investment. No more having to power them up 20 levels to make them viable. I have loads of stardust and candy accumulated so I will happily spend it on some of the lower-tier Pokemon to teach them a second move.

I do hope the have managed to test PvP fully before pushing out the new app version/s that support it; the gaming articles I read yesterday were full of "they haven't decided" on some of the fundamentals of the system .. based on previous new features and updates I doubt this will happen and we may see radical change in the first few hours (like with Adventure Sync and Friends when rewards changed hard)
