I got a Netcomm NF18ACV from Slingshot with landline function enabled and an Edgerouter Lite.

If I was to use the routing function of my Edgerouter while keeping the NF18ACV for switching and VOIP, can someone tell me how to set up the NF18ACV modem?

* the Edgerouter is working fine by itself even with the NF18ACV behind it as a switch, but the telephone port isn't working in this setup.

Many thanks

Hi, so I am guessing you have the NF connected to the edge router via one of its LAN ports, if so that is probably the issue, the VOIP part is looking for an uplink via its WAN port.

So if you want to use the VOIP service you might need to forgo the switch aspect of the NF, connect it to your edge router via the WAN port use either a static IP in the edgerouters lan or DHCP and see if you get VOIP service back. It will be double nat'd but should work. That said I am not too sure of Slingshots VOIP service.

Then just get a switch, they are not worth much, $30

Thanks for your speedy answer, Cyril.

While checking through its VOIP settings, I found this interesting option:

Can this tell NF to find the uplink from a different interface?

You need to switch your Edgeroter to be your primary router and then reconfigure the NF18ACV to plug into a LAN port and get a local IP making sure you disable the SIP ALG  in the Edgerouter.

If this doesn't work there is no real other solution. You need to use your RSP supplied hardware, or move to a RSP better suited to your requirements if you don't like their restrictions.

Yes, it was on AnyWAN as default. I tried both LAN and AnyWAN but haven't got any luck yet.

Thanks for the instruction, Sbiddle.

  • Set up Edgerouter as DHCP and router - (tick)
  • Disable SIP ALG - (tick, and something completely new to me)
  • Configure NF18ACV: local IP + disable DHCP + link Edgerouter via LAN port (tick)

Result: not working yet.

I know the easy solution might be either using RSP hardware or getting a ATA, but I prefer starting with what I have so I can reduce the gears I accumulate.

I had this thread revived in the hope that OP or someone else may have got this working.

I'm with Slingshot and have the ISP NF18ACV.  I'd like to try one of the mesh WiFi solutions instead, and ideally use the NF18 just for VOIP, behind the mesh router - I have a slingshot VOIP homeline and am keen to retain this.  I want to have the mesh router plugged into the ONT because it seems that's the way to use all the features including parental controls etc.

Can anyone confirm if this config will work with Slingshot?

Thanks

Just adding my findings to this thread in case anyone asks a similar question in future.

The working config I have used is:

  • TP-Link Deco M5 mesh system connected directly to the ONT (I'm on Slingshot UFB)
  • Most devices including second mesh point connected via ethernet and switches to the routing Deco unti
  • Voice handled by Linksys PAP-2T connected by ethernet.  This seems to work without any port forwarding etc.  For the config, I used 2talk's provisioning system then changed a few settings to connect to Slingshot.  Slingshot readily gave me my SIP password.  The PAP-2T is connected into my house phone wiring which the phones then connect into

I haven't tried it yet, but when considering heading down this path found this post - while referring to a different router model, it might be useful information
