I have broadband service from Telecom and I am in a marginal/rural location. As a result, the DSL connection drops quite frequently. I don't expect to solve this problem, but I would like my internal network to stay up despite the interruption to the Internet connection.
I have the Thompson TG585 v7 modem provided by Telecom. It has four ethernet ports and wireless. Each time the DSL connection drops it resets itself, dropping the wired and wireless interfaces for almost a minute. This means that every time the DSL connection fails all the systems on my internal network are disconnected.
The modem does reset, after which all the interfaces come back up.
Is there some way to configure the modem so that it will reconnect on its DSL interface without resetting (dropping) its ethernet and wireless interfaces?
Is there some other modem I can buy that can re-establish DSL connection without dropping the internal network?
I would prefer not to have a separate internal wireless router. I already have too many boxes, plugs and wires to deal with. Except for the frequent full resets, the Thompson modem works fine for me.
TIA for any suggestions.
