My current config...
PC with two network cards which has...
IPCOP running DHCP to the green LAN (all networking is wired)
modem/router (Lectron ARC800C2) running DHCP to the IPCOP red LAN
hence I have double NAT (ARGH) and alas this modem/router is not bridgeable, and also I must port forward thru both IPCOP and modem/router (the latter having a limited table)

What I want to do...
maintain IPCOP running DHCP to green LAN
buy new modem/router thats brigdeable so effectively ISP assigns IP to IPOCOP's red LAN
thus - IPCOP does NAT only, and all port forwarding only needs to be done once in IPCOP
note: I am not fussed as to wether I stick with IPCOP, or switch to Smoothwall or even Clark Connect.

I am after advice on the following...
What exactly is the best setup in this regard - am I even on the right track ?
which bridge mode should I be using ?
What is the correct setup in IPCOP/Smoothwall etc to facilitate this ?
What modem/router should I purchase ?

modem/router wise I am currently considering either a CNET CAR2-701U Single Port ADSL2/2+ Router, or a Netgear DM111P, as both seem to support the good bridging modes.

does anyone have experience or advice with either of these two choices or can suggest other makes/models - I would rather spend more and get a good working solution.

my current router is horrible and needs to be switched on/off every few days to free up ports, I am hoping to avoid this in the future.

thanks in advance

even a cheap Dynalink RTA1320 has half-bridge mode. they call it 'IP extension mode'. please note that bridge mode is not what you want. it's called PPP half-bridge.
I reccomend pfsense, ipcop lacks IPv6 support and a few other things I need but is probably OK for home/small business

Thanks for the fast response. Half-bridge mode it is. Had a look at the dynalink RTA1320 and going to go ahead and order one.
Also downloaded pfsense for a look. At least that way I can ask again when I get stuck setting it up *fingers crossed*
