"This is a bit of a rant from my point of view. My first simcard phone was for Vodafone, when I lost that I bought a new phone which came with a 2Degrees sim card ($5 at the time). They were this new company withy big promises, cheap, good service, and everything else. I thought how bad could they be?

I was horribly wrong. 2Degrees needs to really step up their game.

-The minimum amount you may topup is $20. At the time Vodafone had the same minimum but it gave you some assurance that you wouldn't be overcharged from things like hanging up a call in a reasonable time. I've wasted hundreds of dollars on accidental calls, phone having net enabled after firmware update, charged for services they do not advertise will cost.

-Recently I wanted to check my voicemail by landline, but it said I needed to setup my voicemail first, so I called using my cell phone. After doing so, I checked my balance and I got charged. Now like every other month I've topped up I am just under the balance necessary to re-topup.

-Pricing is horrendous, they made out they were cheap. The simcards are now $20 (no additional credit), texting is $10 whereas Vodafone used to have it for $6 and unlimited calling/texting/3g video for $6 for a single contact, calling is extremely expensive, it seems to cost about the same as the competition.

-The "customer care" centre isn't well layed out, it can take quite some time to get where you need to go and find out the sort of information you need. Information on plans and the plan names/information is not available, the internet is required.

-I just rang 2Degrees and waited half an hour for a real person, it was silent most of the time, I think their system failed so I hung up. Then I called Skinny, within 10 seconds of waiting I got to talk to a person and they sorted me in about another 10 seconds.

-They have no prepay freezing of funds available, when I put $20 on, I want to make sure absolutely NOTHING will deprive my funds for the next occurance. This would help a lot.

-Having a plan auto repurchase the previous, so every time you initially select a plan, it does this without giving you an option. Having to text some random number with statements which are only available online makes you feel a bit trapped. Having to cancel a plan as soon as you select one is just silly.

-Phone month ends but it doesn't tell you, so the credit on your phone gets spent.

-They don't provide much in the way of 2G services. So if 2G is off, you cannot receive or make calls.

After the first month of having 2Degrees I really thought the service was far worse than Vodafone's. 3-4 Years on, and nearly a thousand dollars wasted later I've just had enough. I think Skinny, Vodafone and I hate to say it.. Telecom are far better alternatives.

Ranting may be frowned upon, but I just want people thinking of using 2Degrees to reconsider with me experience dealing with this company as my provider for the past few years.

You have the power to change provider, as do the million plus other users they have accrued in a few short years.

Vodafone (and Telecom) charge from the moment the call is answered, just like we do. I'm sorry you're having so much difficulty with pocket calls. Not really sure what else to suggest. Lock your handset when you're not using it?

-Recently I wanted to check my voicemail by landline, but it said I needed to setup my voicemail first, so I called using my cell phone. After doing so, I checked my balance and I got charged. Now like every other month I've topped up I am just under the balance necessary to re-topup.

When you originally activated your prepay connection you were given the opportunity to activate your voicemail service for free.

-Pricing is horrendous, they made out they were cheap. The simcards are now $20 (no additional credit),

Actually most of them come with activation benefits such as minutes, text or data. SIMs from other providers can cost $30 or more.

texting is $10 whereas Vodafone used to have it for $6 and unlimited calling/texting/3g video for $6 for a single contact, calling is extremely expensive, it seems to cost about the same as the competition.

You are conflating $10 Text and BestMate, which are different products entirely. No one is forcing you to pay $10 to text on 2degrees (a going rate of 0.2c/text). You can text without buying a pack - it's 9c a message.

-The "customer care" centre isn't well layed out, it can take quite some time to get where you need to go and find out the sort of information you need. Information on plans and the plan names/information is not available, the internet is required.

Well personally I think IVRs in general are a waste of time for that sort of thing - everyone's, that is. If I had my way none of that would be on the IVR at all...

-I just rang 2Degrees and waited half an hour for a real person, it was silent most of the time, I think their system failed so I hung up. Then I called Skinny, within 10 seconds of waiting I got to talk to a person and they sorted me in about another 10 seconds.

Yes, sometimes that happens. We strive to make it the exception rather than the rule. Unfortunately the days of having 200 CSRs and only 5 customers are long since behind us.

-They have no prepay freezing of funds available, when I put $20 on, I want to make sure absolutely NOTHING will deprive my funds for the next occurance. This would help a lot.

I'm not sure what you're asking for here. We don't just take your money for nothing... You only lose it if you buy something with it.*

-Having a plan auto repurchase the previous, so every time you initially select a plan, it does this without giving you an option. Having to text some random number with statements which are only available online makes you feel a bit trapped. Having to cancel a plan as soon as you select one is just silly.

If you call care they can permanently disable recurrence on some (but not all) packs. Notably the $19 combos cannot be disabled, but the data ones can.

-Phone month ends but it doesn't tell you, so the credit on your phone gets spent.

Well, true, apart from all the texts we send you to tell you that your credit is expiring, or your pack is recurring, or that it failed to recur because you didn't have enough credit. But apart from those, you're right.

-They don't provide much in the way of 2G services. So if 2G is off, you cannot receive or make calls.

What?

I'm sorry to hear your experience has been so bad with us. We will certainly keep these comments in mind.

Haha what a laugh, backs up my theory that the customer is always right is a crock.

* If your phone pocket calls then its YOUR problem.

* Why do you want 2G service, most people are using 3G and the providers are moving towards 4G?

* Most providers charge to call voicemail, its a service so get used to paying for it, if you don't like it then disable it.

* How can you say calling is extremely expensive and costs the same as the competition, that sentence contradicts itself.

* Sim cards are not expensive, my nano sim was free and I purchased a Micro sim swap for $5 the other day and have purchased normal sims for $10 and Micro Data sims for $20.

* 2D send notifications for everything, when your minutes have renewed, 2 Degrees day, missed calls, voice mail and even when payments have been processed!

I personally think you are being unfair and should have read into the service charges more, after all by opening the sim and putting the sim in your phone you have agreed to the 2D terms and conditions.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist:

Angry Bird Is Angry

Back on the serious track, however, I don't understand what you mean by prepay freezing of funds. Do you mean keeping some sort of un-spendable buffer that is used for an automatic topup?

Not my  observation on the OP, but I agree with this. There are a great big sense of entitlement out there and it seems to get bigger when the customer is wrong or doesn't understand what s/he is getting into.

If someone is sharing your dropped calls, then you may be accidentally using the three-way calling feature of your phone. They probably charge for that, too.

This thread is likely thinly disguised advertising for skinny. Remember they did that just about the time they launched?

All customers are given choices.
Some products are not for everyone.
Pick whatever you feel is right for yourself, but whatever you pick, you need to know what you have signed up for.

This is off topic.
But I laughed quite hard when I read that 2d price is high "Pricing is horrendous" blabla...

Be grateful, if it is not for 2degrees competition we will still be paying 89c per minute or whatever

If 2degrees have not started all the 19 combo, will the telco market heat up like it is now?
