Just moved to Orcon Gigantic fibre. Average of $75/month for 12 month contract when signing up via Geekzone.

Orcon router due to arrive Tuesday with a connection the following Thursday.

BUT, connection day was moved to an earlier time - Friday.... but no Orcon router.

Orcon instructions for 3rd party modems/routers said I required Username and Password.

I spotted on GZ that Orcon uses IPoE and does not require a Username and Password.

Had a play with my HG659 ex Skinny with Bigpipe firmware. Success connecting to Orcon.

Here are my settings for anyone else that might need them:

Just to be picky you should set the MTU to 1500 for IPoE - 1492 is only needed for PPPoE due to the packet overhead.

I have just seen a recommendation elsewhere on GZ for IPoE MTU should be 1508.... When I try 1508 MTU on my HG659 it drops back to 1500 after a save.

Here is copy of Orcon settings for a non-Orcon Modem/router.

Setting up Fibre on your modem

Use your modem's user guide to find where to change your modem's settings. Adjust the settings to match following:

  1. Username:username@orcon.net.nz (Please call us on 0800 13 14 15 for this information)
  2. Password: password (Please call us on 0800 13 14 15 for this information)
  3. Connection Mode\Multiplexing Type: VLAN MUX
  4. WAN Service Type: IPoE
  5. 802.1Q VLAN ID: 10
  6. Priority: 0
  7. IP Protocol: Dual - IPv4 & IPv6
  8. Auth mode: AUTO
  9. MTU Size: 1492

This why I started with MTU=1492, but I am now using 1500 as per sbiddle recommendation.

As I found out, Username and Password is not needed when Using IPoE with the HG659.

Looks like Orcon is not a GZ user.... I have contacted Orcon directly...

Hey Gordy,

Sorry for the delay in getting to you.

We are definitely on GZ, I didn't see your last couple of posts - my bad!

I'll let the team know about the non-Orcon fibre setup guide.

Thank you for that.

Cheers,

Hi @MatteGreen.
Thanks for your response.
I only did a user search for Orcon on GZ.
My fibre setup above is only tested for my HG659 which is working well on the Gigantic plan.
Hopefully the config would be the same for other routers.
I also did a search for non-Slingshot routers and that appears to need fixing too.

No problem,

I'll let the team know about the guides for both Orcon and Slingshot.

Thanks again,
