Benoire:

Ok but the res has increased to 1920 x 1080i but the bitrate has dropped from around 9 to ~5 mbps compared to some of the older recordings I have.

Newer more efficient encoders are able to go lower and retain much the same picture quality.

All Sky Sport channels are 1440x1080. They changed from 1920 a few years ago to make room for more useless SD channels.

Yeah your all right, it seems that they're still at 1440 x 1080 except for a couple which sit at a higher res... ESPN appears to be 720p world wide as I recall the UK ones being like this too.  Sorry, I'd jump to a conclusion early based on some information which didn't match other channels!

ZollyMonsta - I can assure you that the sports channels are not in 1920 x 1080i.'

Have a look at my previous post.

What you are probably seeing is your Skybox Upscaling 1440 x 1080 upto 1920 x 1080 which is a total FOB off on Skys behalf.

The Native broadcast of Skys services are 1440 x 1080, except ESPN and Two Movies Channels.

The only other 1920 x 1080i Services aside from Skys are the TVNZ and TV3 Services - which are locked at 1920 x 1080i permanently

Cheers:

I was responding to a query regarding Vodafone TV, not Sky TV.

Hey.

This is a bump of sorts, after the initial announcement of increased HD content, its gone very quiet, I'm just wondering if anyone has heard or read about a launch date?

I aim to misbehave.

Yep, After this month two months have been by with not a single new HD channel.

I’m still having to get Sky 5 stuff from other sources, so hopefully that ones high in list, lot of Zone content moved there and it was HD before shift.

Come on Sky, you’ve ditched SD channels where there’s HD equivalents, now use the space to provide better service at no additional cost, as it’s bandwidth not being utilised.

The new CEO is saying the right words, but actions speak louder.

I'm not sure how fast the new CEO can just replace content. Technical reasons, rights reasons, I'm unsure. The other issue is that when he arrived, 8am that day wasn't the start of the big change. It did however start the period that he would fire much of the team and bag the company. You can guarantee that there'll be a big change. Strategically, just before RWC would be a good time, to capitalise if Spark didnt get the RWC right. And there is the fight with Spark for sports, so plenty to hope for. But I imagine many/some of us will need to accept two subs from here on in.

I’d be surprised if the content is supplied in SD format, as it was HD before moved to Sky 5.

I’m using Sky 5 as an example as that content has been on other HD channels, like the DC content that was moved from HD TVNZ to Sky 5 SD.

All Asking is they change channels to HD that they already have HD content for. It’s probably more then just pushing the big green HD button to change a channel over, but don’t believe it should take months.

Sky 5 had Salvation before Netflix, it was SD on Sky 5 and Netflix is showing it in HD DD5.1 but a season behind.
