I had MySky HDi installed today. Thought I would test it out tonight by setting it to record two channels at the same time. However one of the prgrammes I set it to record (Law & Order) failed to record. When I went into "Planner" the status read "FAILED"

All the others recorded without any problems.

Any suggestions as to what may have caused this failure?

Thanks.

I would like an answer to this to, similar issue. You shouldn't have had a clash if your recording two channels at once as that still leaves two free decoders, one for live viewing and one for On Demand/EPG.

We've had several shows that are set to record, start to record the buffer before the time slot and than "fail" to record once the show starts. When looked into it says "failed for unknown reason". If manual recording is attempted it won't record at all. Anyone else manage to record Chuck last night?

And then once down that path, you can always att a Freeview HD recorder for the TV1, 2, 3 recordings.  Again no limitations on dvd burning (if you can convert the files) or length of storage.

So Sky copy protect (TVNZ and MediaWorks) content that TVNZ and MediaWorks don't........  Unless that is the commercial agreement they have come to.

Edit above in italics for clarity.

Problem removed.  Thank you SkyLaughing.

Don't understand your remark. Does this mean Sky have removed their copy protection?

Just trying to be subtle. Yes, for FTA, it would appear so.

SepticSceptic: Short of ripping out the HDD, and cloning it somehow, and then reinstalling the original HDD, and then using the cloned HD in a system that read most file systems ... etc ... oops DRM circumvention alert !!!

That would have been a nice feature if they put a removeable HDD (like whats been done in a PS3 for example) in the unit, you could (or the tech) swap it over when a replacement is installed, Could even offer HDD upgrades to increase the storage space (probably for a hefty price though lol)

As far as I know, nothing has changed in SKY's FTA copy protection flags since the launch of TVNZ HD. Would you mind expanding on that a little, please?

I couldn't transfer some recorded TV2 programs to DVD then a week later I could.  So I assumed something in the copy protection had changed.  If not then I will just put it down to 'white man's magic' (cue twilight zone music Laughing).

Thanks for that. All the FTAs on SKY are flagged as 'copy once', which is as per plan. It may be that the MySKY HDi fix in 2.1.0.2 from signalling 'copy never' (which was ignored by many devices) to 'copy once' has benefitted you on your particular DVD recorder.

Same here, all FTA TV1,2,3 copy once as latest software change. No change, as manaia says.

www.skycopyplus.co.uk could be very interesting. They host two software programs: Copy+ and +Extract that can duplicate entirely or copy recordings from a directly-connected SKY HDD respectively. Both were developed for BSkyB, but from what I can tell so far the boxes are likely very similar to the MySKY and MySKY HDi boxes used here by SKY NZ. According to the Pace website, the HD boxes from both providers are from the TDS850 range: http://www.pace.com/corporate/products/productTypeDetails.asp?nav=products&prodTypeFilter=platform&prodType=DSAT#DSAT
+Extract copies the individual encodings in their raw form, which then need to be converted to MPEG-2 using ProjectX: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ProjectX
I haven't tried it myself, so I don't have any results to report. For any brave souls who wish to try: they highly recommend connecting the drive to your computer using a USB caddy, as Windows has a tendency to allocate system volume information and recycle bin areas on the SKY HDD if you boot with it connected (the SKY box doesn't like this at all).

Sounds like it should work OK here in NZ, just with a few bugs that should be sorted out fairly soon.

I just encountered a problem with the MySky box (faulty HDMI socket) which apparently cannot be fixed and a box swap will be required (Can you believe it??).
This will of course result in the loss of all recorded content.
I suggested to Sky that they could swap the HDD from my box to the new box and was informed "This is not a service we provide".   (WTF??)

I was searching for possible solutions and came across this old thread.
It makes interesting reading and coupled with my latest experience nicely highlights a major problem with some NZ organisations. "The customer is never right"

Definitely up there with Samsung NZ and their "Not a New Zealand phone so we can't help you" policy.

There are solutions to the copy issue, but unfortunately they all seem to entail taking the box apart or streaming hours of recordings to a recording device.

I am open to suggestions, preferably by PM.   ;)

Not really a fix but getting a second decoder and recording on that until you have finished watching the programs on the faulty one is all I can suggest
