Spyware: Sky SD decoder output is actually unfit for any flat panel TV, tested over 2 decoders with component to two different LCDs and my study of everyone else i know. Being serious, if you go close up to anything large like 46" it is like having double vision. I cancelled my subscription purely because of the low bitrate and visible macroblocking. Won't have the rubbish service in the house.

Same again, move up to the latest equipment fed via HDMI, uninterrupted movies and the best live sport in glorious HD, we couldn't be happier. But we all know you long held hatred of Sky themselves. PS - 46" is only average, not large.

I agree with Clevedon although with a degree of sadness... we pretty much only watch TV3 SM1 SMG SS1 & SS2 because everything else just looks like a youtube download. I'm glad that Sky went 1080i though, cause if TV1/2 is industry quality 720p then it isn't a patch on 1080i. However I remember making the point 18 months ago that the great uneducated masses simply don't comprehend what we're on about when they can't even figure out the benefits of pillarboxing over "fatovision". They are the ones who make Sky money so they call the shots...

Mr Sky: I've changed my mind - acn we please have SS3 in HD before anything else?

BTW - got FreeviewHD working now and I can't tell the difference between FvHD and SkyHD channel-for-channel.

50" Pany. tried the MySky in pass-through and permanent 1080i modes, which is how I figured out TV1/2 HD on Sky are 720p. In the end we left it on 1080i to save the tv from switching resolutions each time we change channel. I'd be interested to know what differences others can see between the FreeviewHD and SkyHD FTA channels?

After reading all the advice here, I've decided to upgrade to MySky HDI.
Since I already have the SD verson of MySky, it will cost the same monthly fee with just a 1 off instalation fee of $49.

I'm no expert as I don't yet have MySky, but you are aware that if you want the HD content, you need to pay a monthly fee of $10 for the HD ticket to enable HD content?

Correct, or keep the MySky1, get multiroom for an extra $25. With multiroom you don't pay the HD ticket, so in theory if you get that it's really only another $15 ( assuming you were going to get the $10 HD ticket )
plus the added advantages of two decoders.

I decided against the HD access ticket, because we don't subscribe to movies or sports so the only channels that we would get in HD are one, two and three, which are free on freeview HD. Totally not worth $10 a month.

one, two, three are HD on myskyhdi. No HD ticket needed. Only needed for Sports and Movies HD.

Thats not what the 2 people I talked to at call center said (as they offered me the hd ticket). But I believe you.

The second rep did try to charge me $99 for installation.

Neighbours have HDi without ticket, 1 2 & 3 are definitely HD and come up on planner as TV1HD, etc. ISTR it was a requirement by TV3 when they provided the HD content to Sky from day 1, and probably TVNZ when they joined the party last year.

sky all channels are mpeg2 most channels rez are 720x576 16:9 some are 704x576 16:9 and some are 544x576 4.3 ect but freeview hd are all 720x576 16:9 some are 1280x720 16:9 or 1920x1080 16:9 freeview is h.264 and h.264 is very hq format so its way way better
