this will apply to new customers and not existing customers right? skytv can't just take away channels people subscribed to right?
As I said earlier in this thread, Sky is removing ESPN from existing customers. Your subscription will go down as a result if you are with Sky direct, and I believe someone with a Vodafone subscription also posted their sub price is going down. I can't speak for Telecom subscribers.

Well I guess in theory they could. I am guessing their customer base would desert them though if they were paying for a basic package with no channels. There have been many instances where they have removed channels from the basic package and not reduced the price. At least with ESPN going to HD and the sports package they are reducing the basic package price. Pity those of us with Sports on top will pay more. Is this a sign of things to come? ie move channels to HD and charge more for them (on top of the silly HD ticket charge).

I agree, what's the purpose of paying for hd when a channel that goes to hd costs more as well. Didn't sky convert sport 3 to hd recently with no charge?

Yes they did make sport 3 HD recently without charge. I agree, paying more for ESPN to be in HD sucks....but I will pay them anyway cos it isn't like I have anywhere else to go.
If this change applies to everyone, it's even more of a price increase to everyone who signed up with the 12-month half price basic package, with full price Sports package
whats espn 3 that will be available from isky? is it same as normal espn or will it be espn from america with all nba games and nfl games and not mlb replays 24/7

so that $7.13 increase - $5.03 = $2.1 is for that "HD"
I wont mind if they just increase $5.03 for Sport Package with ESPN HD but extra $2.1 just for HD.
what if others without MySkyHDi? just the basic skydigital box isn't that unfair for them have to pay extra $2.1 for that ESPN "HD"
I think that Sky are probably doing the best they can to keep everyone happy. Most channel providers do charge a premium for HD content. My guess is that Sky are just passing on the increased costs of HD to subscribers (ie. the $2.10). They'll move the channel to the sport package so that people who would be willing to pay that increased cost are the people that end up getting the channel. That way they save the people on the basic package from the extra cost. If anyone on the basic package want to keep ESPN then they can decide whether it is worth buying the sport package. Unfortunately they can't do anything for the people who have the sport package but don't have the HD ticket. Anyone in that position could think of it as another reason to get the HD ticket. Would we rather have HD content available or not?!?
