We had this exact same issue last year when we built our house; the bottles were delivered but they could only be connected by a gasfitter. The building company we used just sent the gasfitter back to our place and he connected them up, explained how the regulator worked, and was all done in five minutes without any cost to us. Try contacting your builder and see if the gasfitter is able to return to the house to connect it up for you.

That's what I'd expect as well. I assume it's a spec house since you say it's brand new, I would have thought it was part of the job the gasfitter has probably already been paid for to come back and hook up the bottles.

He did his check with a lighter and i bloody ran like hell when I seen him pull the light out, when I came back I give him one hell of a bollocking. You read about people like this did not think I knew any though.

Still, it would be a very reliable way to detect a leak.

Not quite how things work. Gasfitter is paid to complete the installation. If cylinders aren't there when they finish off, it doesn't prevent them testing and certifying the job as finished. Maybe we should start adding another $100 to every job, on the off chance the owners don't organise their gas on time. Owners love paying extras lol.

but the owner likely hast taken possession when the gas fitter would be finishing.

Can still have cylinders on site. For the big jobs, that we can't test off a 9KG due to capacity, we tell them we can't test till they have their cylinders on site. We tend to be one of the last trades that need to finish off so it's not a big deal for people to be proactive and order things like that so they are ready to roll. Bit like ordering your fibre install, you can do that before you take possession.

but again its not the owners problem, and it likely hasnt been communicated by the gas fitter to the builder. but i doubt the builder would want to stump up for that, and nor would the owner when they would expect that to be sorted as part of having the house built.

catch 22 really.

That's like saying builder is responsible for organising ISP and power company. It's not. Both of those services require the home owner to organise as they have to have the services in their name. Getting a bit off topic though.

no its not

the builder sorts out the electrician to connect power to the property before i move in. i take position i call the power comany and get the lines livened, i dont need an electrician back to connect anything.\

it just seems to me the process is flawed for the gas fitting side as it should be signed off read to go when the home owner moves in, not requiring them to get a gas fitter back to do something.

Imo gasfitter is expecting the call when bottles arrive to come and complete this part of the job. That is all.
