do the days match up when the new provider started charging you vs when the old one had their final bill?

I've seen an occasional issue like this, but it's normally when one provider was sending meter readers, and the other get the reads remotely, which doesn't appear to be the case here

Can you get a daily breakdown from your old retailer up to the switch date?

Yup the the cut over dates are correct.

I might reach out to them about this but they maybe fed up with all my emails. To be honest the bill to pay is essentially the same for either company ($0.50 difference) so it's probably easier to just pay it and see how the next months usage is with the new provider.

EDIT: I've reached out to the previous power company and they are going to send through all their smart meter readings since i joined.

What dates does the new bill cover? Was changeover day 13th July? The readings You've shown add up to about 1100 over 2 months, does the bill include additional days in June you didn't get data for? The readings are ~30kW per day so your new bill can't be for just 30 days.

The cutover to the new provider was midnight 12th of July. the billing period is 13th of July to the 11th of Aug. Based off the previous bar graphs, roughly 919kWh over 30 days.

Well it is a mystery that can only be explained by the bill including additional units not shown by the daily usage app. I'd ask the new company to explain not the old. Say they've reported daily usage totalling 919kw going back from 11 Aug, where do the rest come from?

I've had periods where Contact haven’t been getting data from our meter and they send a high estimate that evens out when the meter reports in again. You seem to be getting daily readings so there shouldn't be any estimating going on.

My theory is that the bar graph really shows kW per half hour, that is you need to double each value. I noticed similar with my Mercury bill many years ago. They claimed it was a one off anomaly. I had gone back for years and realised it was simply graphed wrong.

Write down your meter reading today and tomorrow around the same time. It would give you rough idea how much electricity you use.

Exactly why i started this thread, just doesn't make any sense. Really annoying since I've been tracking power usage with their app and then get the bill. I've spoken to Contact and the only thing that would make sense is the previous power company has miscalculated their final meter reading. Contacts actual read does align with what the physical meter is showing. I have checked with the previous power company and they have doubled down saying their final meter reading was an actual read and is correct.

Hopefully i can dig in to the smart meter export from the previous company and figure it out.

Have a look at your daily fixed charges too - you might be eligible for a reduction with that if you can be classed as a "low user" it is quite a bit cheaper

That isn't low user. The bar graph shows kW per half hour, that is they are half hour samples. You need to double each one.

The bar graphs and the average winter monthly usage of ~30kWh per day align with what the previous power company and even the power company before them. 2.5kWh per hour 24 hours a day for 30days in a row is a crazy amount of power to use. i just checked the meter and we are using about 0.5kWh currently

Good idea, just took a photo of the 2 readings.

okay, I use a little under 10,000 units / yr and am on a low user plan, it dropped my monthly bill a bit. Their claim they usually use 30kWh/day isn't much more than that.

I use more. To me your bill looks normal. I had the same problem with Mercury re: the graphs as I said above. CSR never twigged that they are half hour samples and add to half the usage. And that is exactly what they do.

OP uses exactly double what they claim.
