no, we only just signed on with contact energy, that's the first bill with them.

That isn't low user. The bar graph shows kW per half hour, that is they are half hour samples. You need to double each one.

 

 

If i drill down to daily it's graphed per hour. I added up the hourly reporting for the 13th of July and it equals 28.47. rounded down equals the 28kWh reported for the day which is what the daily graph is showing.

 

 

The needing to double it really makes no sense, whats the point of showing the graph at all if it's out by that much?

 

I'm thinking the smart meter is correct but the final meter reading is wrong. when the actually read is done the discrepancy between the smart meter and the final read and actual read has just been added on.

 

I checked the low user rates and it's 50-50 with the standard rates. About $20 lower in summer and about $20 more in winter using the low rates.

I thought with Mercury that needing to double made no sense but that is how it was plotted. The units were simply wrong. So you are saying the smart meter is wrong??

 

You also have to qualify for low user by using 8000 units or less which you don't.

I'm saying that the smart meter is reporting correctly (the number align with last 3 years of winter power usage, always in the 900's but never over 1000), but something is off with the final meter reading that was supplied to contact which seems to be calculated about 911kWh under.

 

Smart meter reports 919kWh, then the final reading and then the actual read says actually say we used 1830kWh. so the missing 911kWh gets added to the bill.

 

Until i get to chew through the smart meter export from the previous company to see if i can figure out what is going on. It's going to be either pay the previous company or pay contact the additional 911kWh.

Very cheap isn't the word! That kWH rate is lower than any I can find on power comparison charts for just the power component (NZ avg 19.5c) not including the line charge (NZ avg 11.3c).

I'm paying 32.8c for Anytime. Powerswitch suggests I could save only a bit more than $1/week switching so that can't be too out of line.

looks like we have found the issue. Requesting the smart meter readings helped them find the problem.

 

Your meter is a Day/Night meter and so has 2 registers. Apparently we were billing consumption on both registers up to February but the invoices from March through to July only show kWh for 1 register so it looks like we have been underbilling since March.  I'm not sure how this has happened and am waiting for the full story.

 

They still seem happy with me paying the excess power charges to contact which i find a little weird but once the contact bill is paid everything will be back in sync again.

That's an interesting issue to have. Sounds like they must've been receiving the same read for one of the registers.

 

It won't really matter who bills the consumption - ideally it would be the old retailer, so it can be reconciled up to the correct months, but as long as the totals match up, no-one's going to chase the discrepancy.
