I don't mean to go to far off topic, although this could still be helpful for the OP, but are there any dvb-s set top boxes with card readers that are known to work with Sky cards (a legitimate sky subscription)? A search on Trademe suggests there is although I wouldn't take a seller's word for it. I tried a search on here but it wasn't fruitful.

UltraPlus series and Vu+ Duo are both good boxes that work with blue cards.  I'm not aware of any that work with non-blue cards.  AFAIK Vu+ is a bit more technical/tweakable and UltraPlus is a bit more consumer but (apparently) the best upscaling around.

When we have spare cash I'm probably going for the UltraPlus X-9200HD primarily instead of an HTPC media player but also for my blue card.

PS: I've been following listing from Rebecca on TradeMe and she seems to give great service. Price is slightly higher, but worth it if you want it to just work and have extras already installed for you.
