New firmware installed plus a full factory reset to remove any gremlin settings that might be lurking. The issue isn't fixed but it has definitely improved. Although the release notes made no mention of an audio fix and it could just be a coincidence, progress is still progress.

I would estimate the audio delay at around 100ms now, based on visual comparison from a calibration disk and the echo test using both TV speakers and amplifier via digital out. That makes the error negligible during dialogue and for most other soundtrack elements. But it is still apparent for abrupt or percussive sounds, such as a gunshot, door slamming or someone being slapped across the face.

I intend to keep talking with Sony for now. Hopefully they can keep working to resolve the issue.

EDIT: I decided to use a shot timer (as used on a pistol range) to try get a more accurate handle on the split time between audio signals when generating an 'echo' through TV speakers and amplifier. Set an AV sync track from a calibration disc at loud volumes, then I added even more audio delay using AV sync on the amplifier (an extra 300ms) to be sure I could time both signals consistently. Then subtracted the extra 300ms from the average split time. The result averaged 30-40ms. As previously mentioned, still noticeable for some situations, but now 99% tolerable.

The Life of Pi 4K HDR sample plays in HDR fine

Doesn't mean we are certain to get BluRay UHD HDR support because I still need to test 4K60 4:4:4 10 bit by testing a 970GTX with a new cable.

There was a moment that the video played how it would normally on non HDR capable display (blown out) and then it kicked into HDR mode.

Does your setup have a receiver passing the video signal to the TV, using the TV as just a display? I have the same TV and had the same lip sync issue so I've changed the setup so it goes MySky - receiver - TV but I can't work out exactly what audio delay to put on the receiver. I've tried various settings but they don't seem to line up - although I'm now not sure if I'm overthinking it and noticing a delay that isn't there. Very frustrating!

I did have everything configured that way (HDMI source -> receiver -> TV) and it removes the audio sync issue as far as I can tell. But I can't use that work around when I send audio to the receiver from the TV, ie. Netflix audio from within the TV to receiver over HDMI ARC or optical out. And because the audio is already delayed and the receiver AV sync adjustment can only add more delay, changing that setting didn't help.

Today though, I have discovered that the audio sync problem from the TV digital out seems to relate to Dolby Digital sources. If I select digital audio out to PCM, it seems to remove the delay from the audio signal - but also the surround sound element. That's manageable for me as I am only using a 2.1 sound bar, but would be less helpful if you want a 5.1 mix from Netflix etc. Right now I am watching a bluray with HDMI audio set to PCM. The audio path is Bluray -(HDMI)-> TV -(Optical)-> Sound Bar. No noticeable delay.

So it may be that the way this TV processes multichannel audio is causing the delay issue. If you can handle a digital stereo audio track, try setting it all up to use PCM. I'd be keen to know if that helps.

Was deciding between Samsung JU7500, Samsung JS9000 and Sony X900C - ended with the JS9000 because I could not justify paying more for a thinner panel and trading off quality of the colour and noticeable blacks. JU7500 was a very strong contender and price point but the external connect box is quite different vs the mini box

Thanks. To be honest I've given up on the internal features like Netflix and Freeview Plus because of the audio issues, and am just using the TV as a display with MySky and Apple TV running through the receiver with no issues. I think the audio sync issue also affects the inbuilt speaker which made it more difficult to line the audio through the receiver up properly. By my ears the delay within the TV is about 110ms. Would be great if Sony fixed it - I assume they must be on to it if the latest software update helped.

I saw this TV on sale and wanted to know if it was any good (Quality, high end? etc).

Not high end. It's entry level 4k panasonic. Just look for online reviews for 2015 panasonic tv with model 640z or 6XX.

The reviews I can find for the Panasonic CX640 or CX700 ranges suggest they have VA panels and really good picture quality, great blacks and great colours. But the Panasonic NZ site says our models have IPS panels, so I'm not sure if they will still have the same good picture quality.

Guys, just bought Sony Android TV 65X8500C and I do not have the lip lync issue. Im using optic cable from TV to my receiver and netflix on tv works flawlessly. I need to set my audion to speakers on tv though.

btw, out of topic, do you know if Hulu and Amazon will be available on Sony Android TV?
