barf: TLDR
linux box in the states and http://www.torrentflux.com/

Nice - just had a quick play around, works on shared hosting - which does get around the pricing issues...

This is a great way to get torrents, I used to do this back when I was in NZ.

It saves you a lot of hassle and "wasted" upload data, especially on low speed torrents.

You don't have to worry about bad hashes, you don't have to count all the uploaded data against your plan and once you've got the whole file sitting on a server somewhere, if you use something like WX Download Fast (or any other multi-session downloader) your file will download from your hosted server to your local machine at very good speeds.

The only downsite I can see is that it'll cost you money.

If you split the cost of the server and arrange a sneakernet distribution within nz then it can work out a hell of a lot cheaper.

Only problem is that private trackers are anal about what software you can use and even when impersonating an allowed client there were things that gave it away and resulted in a ban on a few occasions.

Thanks for the info guys.

Just to let you know that I was planning on renting the server and sharing the cost between some friends -  I was going to FTP the files down from work for free.

Just found this in my rss feeds,  understanding hosting episode_2, bandwidth storage usage limits and pricing

The place they profile lets you have 2Terabytes a month in traffic, for $120us a year.
