So my HTPC setup is a little modern, a little retro...
It's strictly 2-channel, but frankly, the bass and imaging almost makes a centre speaker and subwoofer redundant.

Sources:    My Sky HDi
                 Sony PS3 500GB HDD
                 Project RPM 5.1 Turntable
                 Apple MacMini (128GB SSD + 8GB RAM)
                 ------> Connected to a 3TB Firewire 800 Western Digital external drive

Amplifiers: PrimaLuna Prologue Monoblock x 2 (KT88's)
                 Perreaux DP32 preamp
                 Perreaux SXH2 headphone amp

Speakers: Theophany Psuche Kardia's

Display:     Panasonic TH-P46V20z (UHF Freeview aerial connected)

Controls:    Harmony Ultimate - linked to Remote Buddy on my MacMini

Lighting:    Philips Hue

Network:    Vodafone router with the wifi turned off
                 Apple Airport Extreme as wifi router
                 -------> Connected to a 2TB USB 2.0 HDD for Time Machine backups + basic NAS duties
                 5 way D-Link ethernet switch
                 StongVPN connection to allow Netflix etc.

The preamp is particularly well suited for my particular setup as it features asynchronous USB input (direct from the MacMini), while taking an optical cable out of the TV for regular TV / PS3 usage. The headphone amp is quite cool, with two outputs I can connect it to both my standard cans, as well as the wireless AKG's.
I'm running PLEX on my MacMini, with the web based server sending content to all the phones and tablets in the house, and the Home Theatre interface working well with my Harmony remote (thanks to Remote Buddy) + offering Airplay. It works so well that my jail broken Apple TV 2 now resides at a mates house. iTunes is often used as it's quite convenient at times, but I'm also using Fidellia for critical music listening. There's 3 x music libraries at my house, FLAC, AIFF (to be loaded on iPod's etc) and MP3's for use in the car head unit.
The turntable is currently not plugged in, as it's awaiting a phono stage.
The Harmony Ultimate remote is coming along nicely. It not only controls my rooms lighting via the Philips Hue system (dimming / changing colours depending on activity) but the use of Remote Buddy allows me to shell directly into iTunes or PLEX as required. Controlling the PS3 is handy, but seldom used to be honest. Plus the iOS app does get fired up from time to time to control Sky etc.

There's still some work to do, and maybe, one day I'll pick up a centre speaker / surrounds / sub and a home theatre processor to get the whole 5.1 thing happening... but I'm not overly fussed about this at this stage. I may also grab a dedicated router for my VPN setup + a Roku3 / get myself another PS3 and hack it in order to rip my SACD's.

I haven't got any pictures at the moment, but my systems consist of:

1 AMD Phenom II with 12GB RAm acting as a TV server with 4 DVB-S tuners using DJBLu's mods for MediaPortal and running sky through it all on Server 2012. I'm about to purchase a new motherboard to virtualise with pass through using ESXi to make it even more fun.

1 Core2Duo HTPC in the lounge for playback, very simple little system running windows 7.

1 intel core i5 in the office for playback to the plasma in the office for sports and stuff.

1 MS Surface Pro for mobile TV pleasures :-)

Eventually like to add more tuners so that I can pretty much record any channel without worrying about stealing a tuner :-)

Also, fully expandable in terms of HDD so can constantly add more and more space!
