Amazon ORIGINAL Content is available anywhere (assuming a prime membership), content they resell for other studios aren't accessible.

Netflix Original Content is available in any region (Netflix membership required obviously.

There is the fly in the ointment. Amazon Prime is not legally available in NZ, so watching that content is still a license infringement.

The good news is Amazon Video will soon be available in 200 countries though, which would compete with Netflix. Hopefully sometime next year. That would mean a legal way to watch Amazon content right here in NZ. :)

I certainly do not think it is morally reprehensible to watch Prime if you have paid for Prime, even if you are out of 'territory'.

In fact I am not even sure it is illegal, certainly not criminally so.

I agree, its not immoral, but it is illegal. I don't think copyright infringement should ever be a crime, its a strange system at best. I think its a violation of civil law, not criminal law. Its a contract dispute.

My beef is when people engage in one kind of copyright infringement and think its ok (for some rationalized reason, like 'I lied and said I was a US resident and paid the US fee) while at the same time calling people who download torrents 'Pirates'. If you infringe on copyright you are a pirate, and that makes a lot of us pirates. Thats why we need to change things up, which many people have pointed out.

With no unblocker active, going to amazon with a prime login has a things to watch when on holiday or something like that. It has their stuff and some kids stuff in it.

No unblocker means they are licensed to show it to me. There is no requirement to be a US or UK resident to purchase prime at all, its just the delivery benifits only work to an in country address (and they expect you to buy 2 subs if you want things sent to both countries which IMO sucks)

Did you give them a US address when you signed up so they 'think' you are an American resident? Here is what the Amazon Video license agreement says:

[i]3. LIMITED TO U.S.

Due to restrictions placed on us by our content providers, we are currently only able to make the Service available to customers located in the United States. We regret that you may not use the Service if you are outside of the United States. "United States" refers to the United States and U.S. territories.[/i]

They are just covering their asses, I don't think they really care. It was the same with Netflix, they totally dragged their feet on enforcing licensing agreements because its not in their interests to do so unless forced by the content owners. But this may change in the future, as Amazon is coming to NZ and then it will be magically 'legal', but for now, you are a Pirate :)

Initially I had given them a Nz address. My account has something set to Nz which is why I keep getting the au page for the drive and the corresponding high prices.

Had added prime long before adding a reshipper address as I had things shipped to friends over there. They know I'm not in the US from all the things I have shipped to Nz.

Vudo, Itunes and some of the other providers have a rental option. iTunes I know you can download, and then watch - ie not stream it. So while it may take longer to come down at least there will be no buffering.

Some of them may provide 7.1 audio as well (ie iTunes with an Apple TV4)...but at $300 that's a fair few bought BluRays

I have Apple TV box (one of the first ones) and looked yesterday at the price of the new release - $25! 3 times more than Blu Rays I was renting before - i.e. new release for $8. Not new - $2 It was also unclear what Audio was there and whether it is streaming only or downloadable content. So did not try yet.
