night: Yeah GraphEdit plays the recorded show perfectly, so I guess that indicates a codec issue with other players as you suggested?No worries. We've all been there before; & some will, again. No doubt.

Have you taken snapshot images of your boot drive during the os install process? If so, then it would be quicker & less frustration to just reinstall an earlier image. I would suggest going back to before any of your codec installs & before MP. If not, I seriously suggest you get one. It will save a fortune in time in the days/years to come.
I didn't see if you mentioned installing a codec pack. If you have, don't! Just install what you need. Packs are more trouble than not for most people.
