Tks! A bit like zaijian which is goodbye, I think that is not used much now, oddly, many Chinese say Bye now, even when speaking in Mandarin.

P.S I have never heard anyone except foreigners say "ni hao ma" whilst in China - its just Ni Hao afaik.

Ni hao ma, literal, is "you good?" which is how are you?

Actually "Ni Hao" is a kind of formal greetings, there is a traditional one, which is "Have you eaten?", it probably sounds weird to English speakers.
