heavenlywild: Hi hao and welcome to Geekzone!

Hee, Ni hao! Not hi hao! Translates to "you good" or ni hao ma. Ma is a question equals you good?

Ni Hao! is the equivalent of Hello! while Ni Hao Ma is how are you

Yep, ma is question mark

Wow, good job. But normally we just say Ni Hao rather than Ni Hao Ma in China.

And I think "Konichiwa" is Japanese.

Tks! A bit like zaijian which is goodbye, I think that is not used much now, oddly, many Chinese say Bye now, even when speaking in Mandarin.

"Ni(n) hao ma?" is totally different in meaning to Ni(n) hao. One is a greeting, the other is not.

Ni hao, literal, is "you good"  which is handled as a greeting, as a hello

Ni hao ma, literal, is "you good?" which is how are you?

Actually "Ni Hao" is a kind of formal greetings, there is a traditional one, which is "Have you eaten?", it probably sounds weird to English speakers.
