I had the same problem last month. I would turn on my laptop and nothing would be displayed on the screen. Hard drive starts up and everything seems to be fine other than a blank screen.

I took my laptop to NEC service centre and was told that the LCD Inverter was stuffed.

Was replaced now everything is fine.

That fine, But unfortunetly I had a bad day, since I return my laptop to service centre, the unit still not fix and become worst now my keyboard doen't working for some caracter, so I decide to bring it home, but when I try it, now my laptop toally dead. So I bring it to main office of NEC distributor, so I complain it what excatlly happend, after arguing with the owner of company, so he promise to fixing my laptop without charge but I have to wait the parts (replacement the mainboard).
Until now i'm still waiting.
