richms: As noise gets worse your noise margin will drop. Once the connection no longer stands up reliably it will re sync the connection to reestablish it with a 12 db margin again.
Noise is picked up by unterminated stubs and low quality filters messing up the balance of the line. Fix that and you should get less noise so the 12 db margin is enough to last thru the evening without doing a re sync.

Would normally mean you have a dodgy line, I assume you have asked for a 24 hour line test to be run and got the results?
oceanlyner: Had Chorus out twice today... They were supposed to ring before they turned up, but I got a call as the guy was leaving.
Managed to get him to come back while I was there and bribe him to install a master splitter. Speed is now up to 10mbps and the line is looking much healthier.
