Don't they have a Disable Wifi button on the side? Possible someone bumped it.

Thanks for the replies everyone,

I think there was a bit of confusion, I do have a wifi connection, but isn't very stable or fast. By the way, does anyone know how I can turn off the verification notice for wifi devices? Everytime I use the wifi on a  tablet or phone for the first time that day, it verifies the device and connection with an annoying pop up screen.

The only thing I have not tried is factory resetting the modem. I will do that today and let it run for a day and see whether the connection improves.

limbuskhan: Hi all,

I recently got my hands on Sparks latest Huawei HG630b residential modem. However, rather than a seamless migration to the latest modem offering by Spark/Telecom,  my internet browsing experience can only be described as slow and jittery. I have no idea what is causing this issue and, after speaking to the tech desk, Spark told me that they couldn't see any issues on their end, instead my connection was very good, clocking in at 18mbs.

This is true, I do get good speeds on speedtest, however in the real world, the modem delivers a jittery experience at best, sometimes even dropping connections or taking forever to load pages. So far I have tried resetting the modem and updating the firmware to no avail. The household has finally thrown the towel in and, as a result, I have reverted to my old and trustee Thompson TG585n modem from Telecom. The speeds are great and I really regret signing on for a further 12 months for a disappointing 'new' router.

Anyone else experiencing this issue? It would be great if I could get some advice on how to rectify this problem, although I am in no hurry as the old modem works like a charm.

Cheers.

I was getting the same issue with my iMac and a MacBook Pro both wired and wireless particularly when streaming HTML5 content but even switching to Flash didn't help all that much other than the ability to pause and allow the building up of a buffer before pressing play again.  I haven't noticed the same issue with my Windows computer though - my desktop having a Intel 7260AC wireless.

Good to know I'm not the only one experiencing these issues. Although I experience jitteriness with both windows and apple devices. I guess a commonality would be that we both run apple devices.

Well since I factory reset the modem, the jitters seem to have subsided, although i'm not holding my breath. Another thing, the annoying pop up screen to verify/authenticate wifi connections seems to have disappeared. Interestingly enough, I only got the pop up screen on my apple devices.

I'll let the modem run for another day or two to see if the connection remains stable.

Cheers everyone

Pretty sure the mainland post hoc backdoor spyware causes these funny behaviours. Factory reset to NSA firmware gives a much smoother experience.

Unfortunately, I just experienced a complete connection crash. All the lights on the router was on, but web pages were not loading on my desktop or wifi devices. I'm afraid that I have reverted back to my old modem for good this time (family members are sick and tired of me giving the new modem second chances). Wifi has become coffee nowadays, mess it up and there's hell to pay.

I think I'll just call spark and request a replacement modem, if all else fails then I'm just left with a brick :S. I will probably just end up selling it on trademe for a song and buying a 3rd party modem when fiber hits my area on Jan 2016.

Thanks for all the help and suggestion guys!
