Same issue on HG659b. Only around 250mbps down via LAN.



@NPCtom the issue will be the way you are testing the HG659b works great for a ISP provided router

As dave and Cyril have already noted.. The d7000 simply cant do gbit over pppoe.

Netgears overall have poor support for pppoe.

Don't like the spark modem? Get a 2nd hand fritzbox 7490? I run this on spark, works great.

Hey guys, thanks so much for all the reply.

So, I left my Nighthawk d7800 and put back the spark modem that my isp gave and tried it for a month. Nothing really changed. I’m getting about 400-500mbps on lan and 100-200mbps over wifi. Am I doing something wrong? I just plug in the modem and restored it to its factory reset? But the speed is still a little bit low. I’m pretty sure I don’t have to change any settings?

Ps: anyone actually on fibre max and getting the right speed? Just wondering (:

OK, so next part of the puzzle, what are you using to test, I presume Ookla in a web browser, have you tried the dedicated Win10 app, an failing that can you run a live install of ubuntu (Mint or similar) and see how that goes.

Hey Cyril, I’ve been dealing with someone from spark a week or 2 weeks ago. They recommended to use the app itself other than the web version. Even he doesn’t know what’s going on. So he kind of just left? Anyway so, to test, I turned off all the wifi and just connect the laptop on lan so it’s the only computer getting the internet. That way I can kind of see the speed — and yet I’m still getting low speed.

Swap out network cabling - could be a dodgy cable giving issues as well.

Hi, so can you try Mint in a Live session, ie it will not install anythign on your disk, just run off the CD/DVD. Also whats the Laptop, ie brand/model/CPU/RAM

i suspect it will be your devices that are the issue.

 

100-200 meg over wifi is still all good.

Is it a usb -> eth adapter?

 

Your device is probably incapable of achieving gbit speeds

Thanks so much for all the help and advise. Just an update, it’s all fixed now. The guy from spark has got back to me and looked around. The problem was with their server, apparently. He reset my connection and that seem to fixed the problem. I’m getting around 700-800mbps on lan and around 300-500mbps over wifi. I’m going to test it out for a week and see if the connection and speed are consistent. Again, thanks so much all the help.

Looks like your connection is now fixed. Note that you won't ever be able to get a 1000mbit speedtest result on your connection. As Speedtest reports Layer 3 speeds. While the max speed that the Ethernet connection from the ONT supports is 1000mbit at Layer 2.
