Macis: Start > Settings > Phone > Services > Band Selection > (select network type) Auto > (Select your GSM/UMTS Band) GSM(1900+850)+UTMS(1900+850)

If the option is there to enable UMTS on both 850 and 2100 at the same time this would be a better choice, otherwise the above should work fine.

The option available on my phone are
-Auto
-GSM(900+1800)+UMTS 2100
-GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)

In theory, if its on auto it should switch between the two for the best option. But, if its on auto it doesn’t pick up any network (at lest when its looking for telecom).

Hold that comment above from me for a second....!
I have just this minute put the telecom sim card in thinking i would test both options to see what happened and low and behold (with the band selection on Auto!) it picked up telecom without me doing anything. Very odd as this wouldn’t work yesterday. It seems I can now switch between Voda and telecom sims without doing anything at all to the settings.... these phone are called "smart phones" hmmmmm... did it learn how to do this or was it just playing hard to get for the last five days before i manually changed the settings to get it firing on telecom for the first time???
Oh well, cant complain, its working now, so i'm not going to try and fix it :-)

Hi Paul,

it appears to me that you are not so certain
of your mobile's make and model.
Please follow the link and lets take it from there ayt!

http://www.telecom.co.nz/mobile/ournetwork/phonecompatibility

This will tell you whether your phone can connect to the new network. You will just need to have a compatible sim and device of Kissabout 850mHz.

Cheers'

Hi,

Yes, I have been there and done that. This is where some confusion has come into the picture as that website (by using the IMEI number) tells me that my phone is a treo 750 and not a 750V. A 750 will not work on the network where as a 750V will.
I have had the phone in question working on the network doing everything it should for about 3 weeks now, so its all good.

Cheers
Paul

Just connected a 750V using

Start > Settings > Phone > Services > Band Selection > (select network type) Auto > (Select your GSM/UMTS Band) GSM(1900+850)+UTMS(1900+850)

I went and made a coffeee and the Telecom NZ name came up in the second bar.

Still waiting for a TXT. How long does it take to arrive?

Cheers

Hi Bernard,

When I got the txt, it was the moment it connected to the network. I didn?t do anything with the txt. But most things work without doing anything anyway. I think once connected the phone downloads most of the settings it needs automatically. I.e. I can txt and connect to the web without having done anything.

Cheers

Hi Paul,

I accepted the txt but I got an error message saying "Change of Device Settings Unsuccessful. Your device settings could not be changed."

Could I ask you to check your ISP settings and let me know what your phone is using? (minus account details of course)

Cheers
Bernard

Hi Bernard,

Not sure what you are meaning... but if you are after the APN (access point name) i have used internet.telecom.co.nz   username, password and domain are left blank in my case and everything works as it should. However, i was sent a pxt today and my phone couldn’t download it as some other setting are not right. Not a big deal for me as i don’t use this feature anyway.

If there is anything else that you want me to have a look it setting wise, drop a line

Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,

I looked at the settings and was able to get the internet connection going. I can use the internet ok but I can download email, but I can't send emails.

What is the smtp gateway? smtp.xtra.co.nz?

Cheers
Bernard

Also, when you do this, you may need to do a soft reset afterwards to get it to work. Once I soft reset, it automatically picked it up and sent me the text etc etc.

Just a question on this... Any suggestions on how to get the contacts name (not the number) to show up in the messaging app? I'm running the 750v on XT network.

You just have to copy your contacts from sim to phone first(if your using phone memory)

Tap the ‘Start’ menu
Tap the 'Contacts' icon
Tap the SIM contact
Tap 'Menu'
Finally,

Tap 'Save to Contacts'

Cheers

Hey... I fixed this today by deleting the messages I'd recieved then put contacts on it, then when I recieved messages, it worked fine.

I hadn't any contact on my sim since it's a new XT card.

Hi Bernard,

It depends on what email address you are using. smtp.xtra.co.nz is not the recommended one

If your email is with another party. You would either need to need to use their smtp server. or if u have a xtra email account can validate your accoutn through xtra and then use send.xtra.co.nz

Steps

Thanks I have already done it with this connection.

The trouble was with the email setup on the phone; I got it going with an external smtp carrier and then got it going through yahoo

Cheers
