any improvements? any further comments? We were thinking of getting a R6 based on price, and that we only call and text mainly, and that it is 3G and covers a variety of frequencies so can be used elsewhere. But then I read all this. Is there an alternative that is ok --> good? at a reasonable price? I wouldnt be too worried about the internet, but from the post above i can create an invalid profile.
Thanks

To Quote from Telecom:
"These issues are generated by the SIM Card ?Dual IMSI? application and interaction with the network ? and are not fundamental hardware/software issues in the Telecom branded devices."

In order to limit issues the steps below can be followed:
Do not power the device on while on charge. The device can be powered on prior to attaching the charger.Ensure that the phonebook resides on the device and not the sim card.
If the issue presents itself the unit can be powered off and the battery & Sim removed for 2-3 seconds before being replaced and powered back on.

Apparrantly a software upgrade is immenient, if you take you phone to a telecom store they can record you details on a system to ensure the update is sent to you. I believe it is an "Over the Network" update.

I enquired about this via email. I got the following advice; (which I haven't actually tried ywet since the old settings still work for some reason and I'm lazy...)

Hi Paul

Thank you for your enquiry.

The R6 can be a bit tricky to get set up correctly. We have a solution though that should work for you.

First, you have to create 2 new APN under Menu > Settings > tab right to Phone > Access Point Settings. Add 2 new APNs, one for mms and another for WAP: -

APN: 2degrees
APN: mms

Once you done that, go to Connection Profile, and create 2 new profiles: -

For MMS,
Leave the homepage Blank
Enter the server address as http://mms.2degrees.net.nz:48090
Enable the Proxy
Proxy address is 118.148.1.118
Proxy port is 8080

For WAP/Internet,
Homepage is http://m.2degreesmobile.co.nz
Leave the server address as Blank
Enable the Proxy
Proxy address is 118.148.1.118
Proxy port is 8080

Then go into Messages > Settings > Multimedia then select the New Profile you setup in Connection Profile/Settings.

If you still have a problem please get back to us or call us on 0800 022022 or 200 from your mobile.

Kind regards

Hi,
Does anyone know how to change the WAP & MMS settings on a ZTE R6 to match that of VODAFONE network? I checked their website to no avail, I've tried putting the generic settings in but nothing!!!!! I have since called customer services and was charged $1 for a Foreign porley spoken english CSR to turn around and refer me to Telecom, I Proceeded to advise the opperator that Telecom Does not have The Vodafone Network settings as they are not Vodafone, She proceeded to missinform me to contact Telecom for the settings then disconnected the call as was going to transfer me to Technical Support.

I then called telecom (for a laugh) and was informed that they do not know Vodafone settings (SURPRISE SURPRISE)
So Im Stuck with no Idea what to do, No help from any provider.....
I see that a 2 degrees customer got given the settings is it really that hard to do for Vodafone????? and am concidering swiching to 2 degrees or flushing my Mobile down the loo :| LOL Perfer to stay on Voda tho :(

All I want is to be able to send and recieve PXT's and access the Internet >>>>> Has anyone managed to successfully find the correct settings for this phone as of yet? If so PLEASSSSEEEEEEEEE HELLLLPPPPPP

If you did a Google search you would find them or even searched Geekzone

John

PS look in the vodafone section on Geekzone and the sticky post also Vodafone NZ do not support imported devices you will need to figure out where the settings go and how they are activated

If you get the vodafone setting from the vodafone forum as suggested but john and then follow the instructions from 2degrees above only replacing 2 degrees settings with vf's you should be ok.

Hey Guys,

Thanks I have got the Internet working by using the following settings:
INTERNET
**Access Point Settings**
Name: VFNZ Internet
APN: live.vodafone.com
Authenticate: None
Username: BLANK
Password: BLANK
&
**Connections**
VFNZ Internet
Homepage: live.vodafone.com
Server Adress: BLANK
Proxy On
Proxy Address: 172.030.038.003
Proxy Port: 8080
APN: VFNZ Internet

Now I still am unable to figure out the MMS settings I have tried all sorts of combinations of the generic info given,
Please if anyone has done it or has any further info can they help with the bellow:

MMS
**AccessPoint Settings**
Name: VFNZ GW
Apn: live.vodafone.com
Authenticate: None
Username: BLANK
Password: BLANK

**Connections**
Name: VFNZ GW
Homepage: ON 2degrees info it says to leave blank but vodafone says enter live.vodafone.com????
Server address: pxt.vodafone.net.nz/pxtsend
Proxy: On
Proxy address: 172.030.038.003 BUT NOT FOR 3g so what do I put if it wont save????
Proxy Port: 9201 or 8080????
APN: VFNZ GW

NOTE: it states on 3g mobiles do not to enter an IP or this case Proxy Address however it will not save if this field is Blank so what do I do regarding that?

Any help muchly apprecieated

Cheers!

Hey John, Yeah I know but the internet doesn't work when it has APN: www.vodafone.net.nz so I tried it as APN: live.vodafone.com which works, However the VFNZ GW side is a bit more tricky...

For those with an R6, R7 or R90 with the dual contacts issue or the phone appears as it is roaming, there is a fix out now.

Visit a Telecom store to pick up a new replacement SIM.

The R6 has an odd habit of shutting down and showing No Battery when the charger is plugged in.

Thanx for that.  That's from Telecom.  Any link that may show this  and are the Telecom fone stores aware of this solution?  If I send my motherinlaw down to get a new SIM will she be met with blank looks like last time from from the store staff..??

The Telecom owned stores are aware of this, not 100% sure on the Dealers, but they *should* be.

Cheers
