Hi,

The Logitech Freedom is well priced and performs well. More suitable than the motorola I would think.

update:

After initial excitement of the jabra working I have done further tests and have found that this replacement (the first they sent didnt even charge) is faulty as well. It only has a range of about 1/2 metre!!

I had installed ROM update for my Harrier. No improvement. I paired it to a friends Nokia 6255 and the range was exactly the same (although I did enjoy listening to music through the BT headset).

I have emailed Ascent and to their credit they have been absolutely fantastic with their service. They have asked me to return the Jabra and arrange another replacement.

I have thought about trying another model but the Jabra style (back of the ear) is what I want. Third time lucky, I hope.

The final chapter:

Bad news.
the 2nd replacement performed just like the 1st. Very poorly. The range was less than 1 metre before sound quality was very crackly.

I contacted supplier and was put onto one of their staff that uses a Jabra. I sent the 2nd replacement for him to try. He rang me from it (was using a different phone though) and he could not fault it at all. He didnt have a Harrier to test it so he sent it up to Auckland to another staff member who did use a Harrier and the verdict was that the Harrier / Jabra combination performed poorly out of all the units. :(

Their conclusion - weak BT signal from Harrier.

As I mainly use the BT headset in my car then 90% time it wont be an issue as it performs perfectly when the unit is less than 1/2 a metre and I really love the design and how comfortable it feels so will just live with it.

Shame though.

perhaps replace harrier with another phone? (which is not a solution i know) though keep your eyes out for HTC Apache... :-)

I have found that the Force bluetooth headset is really easy to use and to pair with the Harrier. Not too big in design and fairly cheap to buy.
Says on da box,
4.5 hours talk time and 100 hours standby
bluetooth v 1.1 compliant
supports headset and handsfree profile
removable ear-hook fits either ear
noise supression, echo elimination and duplex sound for crystal clear quality calls.

but really does work well lol.

riahon. i'd suggest wait for HTC Apache, as you are already using Harrier and i presume you use the Outlook/ActiveSync to synch your data to Harrier from PC. Nokia's data conduit is very poor with field mapping between Nokia's Contacts and Outlook's Contacts.

I went from nokia 3650 to imate sp2 for this reason.

I tried a Noka HS-11W with the Harrier. Same result as the other 6. It disconnects in sleep mode.

And I lost my second stylus today.

aroberts: It must be the harrier at fault, I have had 2 different brand headsets and never experienced your problem. Have you paired any of these headsets you've tried with anyone else's harrier?

chiefie: You are right about the sync of harrier with outlook, probably the most important thing I use the harrier for. The combination of yahoo online calendar sync to outlook sync to harrier keeps me up to date. The apache looks cool and if there is a promo like the original harrier promo (2 for 1) then I will definitely be there.

I agree that it is probably the Harrier, but Telecom keep telling me to try other headsets. We have another Harrier in the office and it has the same problem as mine.

I have just looked at the Apache. Looks interesting. I don't think I'll be able to justify an upgrade within the same year though.

hehe maybe you should tell telecom that IT IS their harrier at fault and demand telecom to bring out Apache sooner... hehehe

I use a Jabra 250V with my Blackberry and I use a BlueAnt Supertooth II in my car. The Jabra unit is awesome, very comfortable, has a vibrate and a volume control on the headset. RRP is $149 in Australia but you cn pick them up for $140.

The bluetooth on HTC devices has to be the WORST ever!!!! The problem happens on the PDA2K also... In iMates defence though it has improved GREATLY with the SP3/i. Hopefully its better still with the Apache/Wizard.

The headsets I've found that work best are the Motorola HS850 and Blueant X3 Micro http://www.blueant.com.au/X3micro_Bluetooth_Headset.htm
You can get the Motorola from most Vodafone stores and I understand the Blueant headset should be available in NZ shortly :)
