Not changing, but I just checked out the plans, and looks good. Very simple, and good value.

For *some* folk, this will be better than the $19 plans, depending on *their* usage patterns.

Agree. My son who is on smart $19 prepay doesn't even use his minutes at all. I may switch him here and probably save $20 per month. In a year he'll have $240 credit.

When will the credits expire by the way?

The problem with this is that it seems, if I'm reading it correctly, that you have to top up every month. For example, I'd rather put $180 on at once and get 500 MB/month for six consecutive months. Am I correct in interpreting that it doesn't work like that?

On the page

" FREE bonus with every top up

You'll get your bonus straight after you top up. Your bonus lasts 30 days or until you next top up. The more you top up in one go the bigger the bonus "

Down the page " Things you need to know " <-- It's all very clear

simjam: There are now four Prepay plans to choose from:

Supa PrePay
PrePay Smart
Freebees Data
Freebees Talk

This is so confusing. There's various texting and calling rates in there. Try explaining all of that to your folks! Wink

The word prepay got hijacked somewhere along the way too.  It used to ONLY mean 'preload with cash' AND USE FOR AS LONG AS IT TAKES UNTIL YOUR CREDIT RUNS OUT but now it's linked to  MONTHLY PLANS AS WELL.
{Edits in caps above}

With the new prepay freebee plans, are they required monthly?  It looks as if they are not, in that if you put $20 on your phone you'll get 250MB data to use over the next 30 days.  After that the data offer ends and you can just use your prepay phone as you did before, until your credit runs out, potentially many months later.  Then next time you top up, you'll get the data bonus for 30 days again.

If that's how it works then I'll change the parents over from the base prepay, but I'm not interested in monthly plans.

Sweet.  Thanks John.
Sounds like a great option for those not wanting to commit to a monthly plan.

Actually, one more thing. Says you can't add best mates etc on this plan...

What if the phone number is part of a family plan deal?
In this case the phone in question would not be the one person who needs to be on an account, it would be a phone that's currently super prepay only but which is part of a family calling arrangement.

The word prepay got hijacked somewhere along the way too.  It used to mean 'preload with cash' but now it's linked to when you pay.  As in: normal plans you use and then pay when the bill arrives and prepay you pay in advance of using.  A lot of the prepay options are now monthly plans.

Prepay has always meant preload with cash and still does.  the clue is in the name - you pay before you use. that is still the case whether yo purchase minute by minute or a bundle.

Yeah that's totally right.  I agree with that.

Originally 'prepay' was offered as an alternative to fixed monthly plans.  Now prepay is used with plans as well as for the original concept of just pay as you go.

I must admit that I didn't read it that way, but if that is correct that kind of sucks. It isn't exactly clear that that is the case. I thought it was a free bonus for topping up, like 2 degrees does, and you could chose which freebie you wanted, and it wasn't treated like a separate 'plan'. It would be better if it didn't expire after 30 days, but perhaps lasted at least a couple of months. Otherwise there s no real benefit to it over one of the smart prepay plans for $19

I'm confused - In my reading of the info on Vodafone's site, it's not clear exactly what it applies to - Supa PrePay, PrePay Smart or both.

i agree.  i just found out about this now and topped up my phone and wife's phone yesterday.  so this is another kind of prepay.  i've always been on supa prepay.

heavenlywild: Looks good initially but when you dive in deeper it isn't much better (for mainly data users) than the $19 Prepay Pack.

Doesn't it give you 750MB of data a month total(500MB +250MB) if you top up $20 each month, so it is better.

From the Vodafone site If you switch plans you will lose any bonus or Add-Ons you may have.

Does that mean if you activate the freebee you lose the smart [data] add on?

i've been burned once when i changed my supa prepay to prepay smart.  i thought i could just transfer to one prepay option to another as long as i have a $20 credit loaded into my account.
