This problem is discussed in the Herald today and finally seems to be fixed

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/story.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=10425983

"Vodafone claimed they weren't aware of the problem:..Considering this was also discussed on here earlier maybe Vodafone need to start reading GZ to find out faults with ther network!

I am going to spill the beans, even though I am sure this will bring some unhappiness in the Vodafone camp: they do read Geekzone. The problem is that they don't value any input from here.

It is a real shame. How many times I wasted talking to Vodafone people to have an "official" voice here? How many people have I met in the last three years trying to get them to understand "communities"?

As simple as that. They don't care. They could have things fixed by simply taking action on tips from users here, but things just don't work. Instead we read in the papers that "they are not aware of problems", even though things have been raised here a few months before...

Maybe this is about to change with our new friend Paul?

On topic though, Its great to see that the problem has been sorted out "and texts to customers would be sent at 8.30am from now on." Pity its now almost March though.

Let us hope. I had a coffee and chat with Paul last week (Feb 2007) while in Auckland. I guess he would still need to break the ice within the company.

Well, something ate my earlier reply to this so I'll repost... a little less grumpily.

Mauricio, I don't know what you're talking about but I think you're talking a lot of rot.

I'm the official Vodafone spokesman but Geekzone is littered with real live Vodafone people who are more than willing and able to take on board what's said here, answer questions and pass information back into the business. There is no disconnect with Geekzone, there is no policy of not "valuing" input from Geekzone, you're simply wrong on that point.

As for this particular story, the journalist in question was sent a lengthy statement about what had gone on which he chose not to include in the story for whatever reason.

We knew about this problem, we've been working on this problem and a fix for this particular problem is due to be implemented this week. Nobody told the reporter that Vodafone was not aware of the problem and I think you'll find it's not in the story.

Anyone who wants to contact me directly can do so - either through GZ or directly. I won't post my email address here (I did and it got edited away) but it's on the Vodafone website along with my mobile number. We are approachable and we are contactable so feel free to do so.

Cheers

Paul

The mods here are quite happy for you to post your e-mail address in the format:

paul dot brislen at ... whatever

This way it stops the spam bots from harvesting it, so a good idea really.

I'd like to put my hand up and thank you Paul for fronting up in an "Official" capacity.  Companies that do this earn a lot of Kudos directly from Geekzoners and indirectly by way of the various referrals we make to friends and family.

When recommending products and services in the Telco sphere, we need to be confident that we can get honest, straightforward and prompt answers to issues that may arise.

A presence here like yours can only enhance Vodafone's perception in our community.

Yet it's surprising how few companies bother to do it.  Telecom seem to have made an edict preventing any of their employees disclosing who they work for, let alone posting anything in an "official" capacity.

The only other regular is WorldxChange and you don't have to look far in these forums to see the kind of support they are offering members of this community.  It's an inspirational example that others would be well advised to follow.

Well, I think it's changing really. Apart from WxC and now Voda, TelstraClear has popped in as well. Telecom as we know maintains a permanent presence here, flame throwers at the ready and everything :)

That said, GZers need to be fair too. Detail, civility, no sniping will all help encourage further participation from different companies. It's a two-way street...

Now Juha thats not really fair, we all know you can't run a monoploy without flame throwers and trolls.

But in all seriousness it's goodto have Paul here. Sure there are VF employees here but most of the time they haven't represented VF, just sharing what they know and although this has been great an 'official voice' carries a lot more weight.

Bollocks it's been sorted out!!! I got woken up at 1:30am this morning by one of these texts and have been getting them since I stupidly signed on for supa prepay. No matter how much I complain nobody seems to listen. Do vodafone not understand that there are some us out there who need some sleep and yes there are many of us who are on call (I am one) and we can't turn our phones off at night. Why is it taking so long to sort out? Maybe emailing the dominion post or some other media people will mean a quicker result. I for one think the way Vodafone have dealt with this is completely pathetic and inexcusable. It should have been sorted the day they found out it was happening and I know they've known for months as I for one complained the first time it happened as I'm sure many other people did. Way to go ingnoring your customers Vodafone...

Hold your horses a little Rachel...

As Paul Brislen stated earlier today:

"a fix for this particular problem is due to be implemented this week."

I know it's damned annoying, my wife has been getting those texts too, in her case we got one last night at 1:04am.  Fortunately I am a night owl so it didn't disturb me, but 1:30am would have...

Let's hope they really will get this problem sorted this week because it has taken far too long really...

I only hope you're right! Although when I rang up this afternoon at 5 they said they hadn't sorted it out yet?

Although I also rang up at 6am too and the very unhelpful lady at the other end was also under the impression it wasn't fixed... she also told me I needed to ring during business hours as apparently me being woken up by vodafone doesn't count as an emergency... maybe when I have sixteen hour shifts and nights on call it is an emergency to me?

Just a thought here to preserve your beauty sleep...

Is it possible to turn off the Text Notifications on your phone so it is silent when texts arrive?

Presumably, any callouts from the hospital would be by way of a phone call so this would let you distinguish between wanted interruptions and unwanted interruptions.

A hospital maybe, but many places (Especially in IT) may have SMS notifications. For example I get an SMS if my web server goes down for whatever reason. Thankfully as I am On Account I have not had such messages from Vodafone, and would be very upset if I did.
