Unplug my network cable, plug in my Telcom XT mobile as a modem ... youtube goes faster.
Direct IE through a London based proxy server ... youtube goes faster.
I could go on but I think the number and caliber of people involved in these threads is more than enough on it's own.
Are you suggesting that someone at Google has spotted this thread and has put limits in place over night ? ...... haha .. that would be pretty cool if it were true !
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't change from Telstra, it's the best I can get in CHCH. I sat here this morning downloading updates from IBM at 2.5Mb per second ...... you'll never hear me complain about that !
I have access to servers in 52 offices around the world, so my plan is to lookup the IP addresses in countries near or close to where Telstra might have good pipes into NZ from.
Might even be able to find a server or two that Telstra doesn't limit. But I sure as hell won't post that information here !!!
Can anyone help me with a script to perform the lookups and dump them to a text file ? (or you guys gonna make me search google on how to do it ?)
As an aside, I've had no issues watching YouTube videos with the Flash player for the last couple of weeks. I'm on the 40GB plan and up until a couple of weeks ago I was having the same terrible buffering issues, but recently it's been all good. I can watch 720p videos with zero buffering. Not sure if there's something specific I did it fix it or whether I'm just lucky?
jamgol: As some others have already reported on another post, great youtube speed tonight (flash based).
720p will play buffer free ... 1080p very very close to buffer free for me.

Well I don't know about last night, but today, both with and without the hosts file modification, YouTube is running even worse than usual. 360p manages to stream only about 50% of the time, during which it'll only just stay ahead of the current time. 480p and above are unwatchable without pausing and waiting forever.
