graemeh: A refurbished or reconditioned phone is usually better than a new one as it will have been tested thoroughly. It should look just like a new one.

michaelmurfy: What is the problem here? Normally you get offered the same phone as yours if it's available or in some cases if the phone is not available they will offer you a range around that pricepoint.
I have had some excellent cases with Phoneinsure, Reconditioned means it's had everything replaced, you won't be getting a iPhone 4 or a 3GS, you are getting a new phone but anyone would be disappointed if they expect better than what they already have.
It's like any insurance company, don't expect a upgrade, except a replacement, a repair of _if_ they can't do that a new version of the same product.

Actually I have found that is not always the case. When something is returned with an intermittent fault, and that fault then can't be found by the company, then sometimes they can then resell those as refurbished and repackaged. This is because either they don't believe the customer that there is a fault to begin with, or they don't have the time to test it properly due to resources. I found this out when a friend purchased a refurbished camera. It had intermittent problems with the shutter button, and when it was returned, they said that that was the cameras initial reported problem, but they couldn't find anything wrong.

You are talking very different companies here. Apple is very, very strict on "refurbished". They have testing facilities that will test the handset completely before returning it to the chain.
jaymz: The rep said that the OP would get a new phone.
Did the OP get the same phone back? From what I read they did not.
So technically the OP got a "new" phone
But I agree with the others, a refurbished phone is normally really good. The same goes with other stuff too (firstin.co.nz sometimes have it on there, cheap but just as good)
