AFAIK the reason for no mobile phones at the hospital, they don't want people to talk loud on mobiles and disturbing others. Sitting quietly and use the Internet is no problem at all. At tauranga hospital, EOL which is a local ISP provides paid Internet via wifi.

There is no such things as mobile phones can cause problem. Doctors carry their mobiles everywhere within the hospital.

The rules may have changed as it's been a while since I was near an ICU, but the last time I looked they had to be off in an ICU that uses wireless patient monitoring.

But that was about it.

Every doctors in ICU use phone generously. The only thing they don't like is you making noises. You can miss the patient alarm etc.

Mobile use in the hospital is not an issue. I know that at least two hospitals in New Zealand are trialling a replacement to the 'dumb' pager system which is essentially a barebones android phone that runs only the one app. The phone connects to central database using either wi-fi or 3g as it can, and they have to guarantee coverage through out the hospital, at least to the same level as the current pager system.

I would suspect that as has been suggested earlier, any restrictions are due to issues of courtesy.

you quoted the price wrong you have to buy a stick thing for 50$ then you buy extra stuff and it costs around 300 for the 12gb

I don't know where you got $300 from. At worst it would cost you another $99 if you needed the WiFi hotspot.

i rang up hospital apaerntly their one is broken

but my partner talked to his computer geek friend

and i got hotspot on my phone working well with my modem turned off!!!

i am very happy and so pleased i figured it out before monday

if you go to wifi settings its a androidap if you google how to

turn it on and accept and add pass word you can show words for pw and there you are using your own hotspot

and i just buy upgrades if i need to which i wont as its just for runescape :P

after all it is the 2014.. and as i said hospitals are boring!

i ended up using my phone as a hotspot but now im checking out cheaper options. i wasted about 90$ for just over a week. but thanks everyone for the help

fyi mobile phones in hospitals are annoying

patience should have them on vibrate or quiet

sso many stupid ring tones, i was in a room with, ....... had laughing babys as a mobile text tone!!!

they should have notices about cell phone noises..... ..

Drop a letter to them (CEO) and the consultant who was in charge, mentioning how you found the other patients ring tones annoying / distracting from sleeping etc and whether it could be possible to introduce a cell phone policy which has a suggestion / rule that all phones must be in silient mode.

All needs are a few signs saying could all visitors and patients turn their phones to silient mode or that only silenced phones are allowed. Cheap vrs costs of introducing patient wifi which if it costs money will take a long time to me introduced.

I haven't bothered to read the other 2 pages but I doubt hospitals would roll out wifi as once you do, you start getting annoyed users asking for support.

Picture someone pressing the support alarm because their wifi is slow / dropping out!

ahaha agreed.

also when i went in i asked at the desk and aparently "technical issues with their hotspot wifi" they didnt want to give much info, i guess its on telecoms side of things...

i was quite surprised about all the replies i got too,
there should be better access around the hospitals in nz
because they are so boring to be in!!!!
