I think all firewall are bad and intrusive. What most do? Block by default and then you have users who don't know why some programs don't work. Others will popup a dialog asking for Yes/No to authorise a program to access the Internet, and most people will click Yes, not even waiting a second to consider what are the consequences of their actions.

The best thing to do is to keep the system clean.

Alright guys.

I took the easy option and used the recovery CD. I could of done the repair option of it but chose to do the full re-install just to make sure nothing stayed on.

I chucked it in, started it and watched a DVD, came back and it was done.

I didnt have too much stuff on my comp that i couldnt get back again, i also put my documents on my USB so nothing was lost.

Cheers for all your help.

I will put those Anti virus programs back on.

I suggest you install Avast and Windows Defender pretty much now... And make sure to go to Windows Update and apply all updates there.

Yup they were done as soon as i got up an running. Done a full system scan an everything is sweet.

See how long the PC stays clean without one!
If you don't have a router, at the bare minimum make sure XP's firewall is enabled.
