Right, thank you for clarifying that sbiddle. I'm glad that I extracted the reason from you as it might be a deterrent for people to use the crack.

I wouldn't be to worried about expiry, usually Microsoft will put out a RC (release candidate) after beta testing is complete. This would typically extend the expiry date beyond the final release date.

Usually this would be the case - but the advise previous applies: it is a beta / pre-release, so there is no guarantee

This in uncalled for. Sbiddle's comments in this topic were only to the tune that if anyone had installed a crack then it could be deactivated remotely. There's no "anti-microsoft agenda" in the comment.

People shouldn't use a crack anyway - no need to wait for sbiddle or anyone else to say this. At one side it would be illegal, at the other side it could be loaded with malware and compromise systems.

I think sbiddle's answers were clear enough without you having to write what you wrote.

I'm sorry but I totally stand by what I said. This anti Microsoft tone has come through in the past and I was merely commenting on it. I wasn't fabricating anything.

As far as cracks/patches etc go, any information is valuable if it puts people off using them. Simply saying "an unintended consequence" does not help anyone.

And I stand behind Scott's comments. I personally know sbiddle and know for a fact he has nothing against Microsoft - and I haven't seen anything anti-Microsoft from his posts. If he ever commented about a product, well that's it. Even I, a former Microsoft MVP never hid the fact that the company had sometimes missed the point. This is not being ant-Microsoft, this is being realistic.

Unless you've installed a crack (which does have an unintended consequence as well) your OS will expire on the 1st August. EVen with the crack you're bound to be out of luck anyway as Microsoft will jut disable the beta via Windows Update.

Just a note and this is something we should all be very happy about. Rumors of RC1 release by the 10th April are abound, but even if there is a delay to this 1st August is a long way off.

I have upgraded from Vista SP1 to Windows 7 Build 7000 with no real problems. Expiry date or not, I have since upgraded again to Build 7048. I am hoping...and at this stage am assuming I will be able to upgrade to RC1 when it is released and from there upgrading to RTM should be simple as well.

So far the upgrades have been painless if a little time consuming. but once the upgrade is running it pretty much works.

I will be doing fresh RTM installs though everntually. (software and driver availability from HP will dictate that)
