Just have a play with it for a while, until you get your head around the differences to Windoze.
It is a learning curve, but not huge.
And most things can be done, but some take a bit of tutuing to make them go as you feel they should.
Have fun, and welcome to Linux.

And I'm there. I installed 7.04 less than an hour ago. Have already customized it. :) I'm enjoying it, and Just getting stuff for the 3D chess and stuff, and automatix etc. I'm not posting with it at this very second cause I don't want to get into that side just yet with the internet. Just a question for the looks... cause I'm like that, can I remove the separators on the side of certain things on the panels, like the network status and window selector?

I'm sooooo happy about this! Yell

right click the items in the panel and un-tick "lock to panel" then use the middle mouse button to move around the items, right click and lock them again when you're done. you can move, create and destroy entire panels too.

I setup my desktop to be like Windows with a main-menu button in the bottom left corner, clock and notification area on the right, window list in the middle.

So i Configured the internet for my linux, and it is going fine, And I installed automatix after getting python2.4...   anyways firefox doesn't really display web stylesheets right... plus the 1024x768 screen resoluton looks a bit bloky...  I know linux normally does but this is extra.  And my application menu isn't there... so I'll try restart it.

if your application menu has gone missing you may have deleted the panel it was on. right click some empty space in a panel -> Add to panel -> Main Menu (or Menu Bar)

about it not logging in, it might be easiest to re-install. surely the problem is recoverable but it's hard to diagnose without any more information about the problem.

Ubuntu 7 ships with python 2.5. Can you please double-check which version you have? Goto to System -> About Ubuntu -> Version and Release Numbers

I can't get into Ubuntu at all now, it's 7.04. I needed to get 2.4 python for that automatix cause it didn't let it install from package otherwise. and I didn't remove the applications thing, I would click it and it wouldn't be "drop down". And it wouldn't open up the thing to edit menus.
