Its about time the govts monopoly on rating things was abolished. Its just another way that a govt that claims to support free trade doesnt.

Slightly off topic but does The Warehouse seriously get all thier imported DVDs classified so they can resticker them? They have some random titles...

Actually... no, the 'Labeling body' will accept an unrestricted Australian or UK film rating per http://www.censorship.govt.nz/industry/how-to-submit-films-and-games-for-classification.html#anchor02, as a result it skips classification in New Zealand. So assuming The Warehouse's random parallel imports are all kiddie safe, it's not that expensive - another plus for OP if the imported films have a PG/U/12A rating.

Often nothings simple in NZ with all the red tape. Selling them privately to friends could be an idea?

Or if you work in a semi decent sized business / office could just sell them imdividually through there a few $$$ per disk we have people do this every now and then at my office and they usually get rid of everything bought in.

It must be a unique collection to have that many DVD's with no NZ rating equivalent. What is the subject matter?

geekzone :) I sold 120+ to another geekzone user last april.

got around $250-$300 IIRC for the lot. they're not worth that much these days and take up a lot of space. Only ones I kept where TV Shows, i tend to rewatch TV shows a lot, not so much movies.

Couple of thoughts here:

Does it cost to get a sticker for a pre examined title that was purchased outside of NZ but has already been assessed here in NZ? I'll contact them and find out.

The warehouse is doing this all the time with their NTSC parallel imports etc, so it must be possible to do.

You're right about the space thing too - they are in a cupboard that could have many other things in it!

I tried doing just a text list - they must have people looking through the bulk DVD auctions, as they got deleted that way too!

I don't know if there are any second hand dealers - though I doubt it!

but how do trademe know they aren't rated unless they can tell from a pic of the box? Or do you have to state upfront that they are rated? Trademe have no way of knowing though, and I doubt the person who wins the auction is going to complain.

Questor: I wasn't after making heaps of money - just wanted a little bit of spending money and the chance to get rid of them. I don't mind keeeping them if there's really no way, but I thought there might have been - it would appear that it's not that simple!

NZ is heading the way of California.

It is impossible not to break some law because there are so many.

I've heard it said that the US Tax code is so complex just about everyone could be caught by the IRS on some technicality.

Then, you get all these people up on their high horses that you've broken some petty law, like you've murdered someone. Good grief!

Because I quite like my TradeMe feedback rating, I am up front that they are region 2, 1 etc - TM then send me an email saying that 'you are not allowed to sell these items, and if you continue your profile may be disabled'

When you list on trademe there is a tick box you need to agree to that states your items have been classified.
Trademe picked up on my strike back DVDs and asked me to supply a photo of the box to prove it was classified, which it wasn't so they pulled my auction.
