Getting back to the original question..

The number of ads on a website really depends on the website itself so its impossible to say.

One website I put 1, another website I put 2.. another website I put 3 .. it all depends. You really have to experiment and see how the number of adverts/the type of adverts/the placement of advert affects your income .

_but_ the most important thing about all of this is getting people to your website by creating the best content/talking/doing something that people want to know/use.

Whether ads are shown or I block them, doesn't change the fact that I NEVER click ads on ANY websites.

Even if an ad catches my attention. Its something that has been drilled into my psyche since the dawn of my internet experience. Never click the ads.

You joined to learn, and I gave you the advice that your knowledge about ad delivery is wrong. I am not going to do YOUR homework collecting links to tell you how it works.

I have done this ten years ago, and constantly evolving. You can start now.

also you say "My websites are always with only one skyscraper block on the right top side and works awesome"

How do you know it is the best? Maybe it is good for one website and not good for others.

Have you tried anything else? Removing that banner and putting it someplace else with a different size ? If you are using adsense is this the best ad network/type of advert for you? Adsense is a CPC (normally) network, maybe CPA or CPM network is better for you.

Also people are commenting that adverts are annoying.. but they really shouldn't be. Some ad networks do give out annoying adverts but thats usually the quality of their website (or the type of website) isn't good enough/acceptable to be able to be accepted by the good ad networks.

Interesting thread! I was interested in finding out more about the different types of ads and how they make money.

My research led me to the following site:
http://www.infinityads.com/10-basic-ways-to-make-money-online/

It offers a fairly simple explanation for each type of ad and how it generates income for the site owner.

I personally run an ad blocker, i know this can hurt website owners. however for forums that i am more of an active member (where the site helps me more than i help the site) i will donate.
