A particularly humorous portion of some Top Gear episodes involved getting the second hand cars they had purchased forensically tested. I wonder what results the limos might turn up? Perhaps it would be better to not know.....

The deal the Govt has for these Limos means they get them for a very very good price, better than they could buy Toyotas for.

Just out of curiosity - what Toyota's cost close to $90K? (with the exception of the Landcruiser)

It's not just the up front cost, it's the whole "deal" which includes all sorts of other things.

If I recall correctly one year BMW came up with the best package to replace the Police fleet. Cheaper, better cars, fully kitted out, the works. They didn't get the contract because it wouldn't have been a good 'look' for Police to be driving around in Beemers. So they went with the more expensive inferior model (I think Ford had the deal back then).

As you say when considering the whole of life package things may not always be as they seem.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I don't see it that way. Our PM doesn't even have his own plane. In this day and age is that reasonable?

PM and a VIP 7 series is fine, 2 cars and 1 standby = 3. But a whole fleet ... hmm ... what do I know! Making laws that the public don't want is definitely hard work!

well may I know the exact amount and breakdowns of the "package(s)"? The RRP for 7 series is 200-350k! THat's a house for most people.

I didn't know holden commodores and ford falcons cost $200k!

I guest what I'd consider a good package would be each car for $100k free maintenance for 5 years.

Cherrys would be one option, but there are other options, like the 5 series for example. But maybe the "package" were prices of 5 series cars.

In that case I'd be fine with it. If they do their jobs properly.

Place request under the Information Act for the financials.

The net amount per unit was considerably less.

as you say its a "limo" so why are we trying to have them look complete tools in something like a Hyundai.
