No but NZ post do not carry items with batteries in them, read their T&C's.
So how do they get on with mobile phones and the like?
They go by courier not post.
This is the stupidest thing ever. At the end they all go on the same transport, don't they?

Location/Service dependent within NZ. but yep, out/In of AKL our options are limited being a tiny island.
Nationally you still get some via Toll Airfreight nightly. Some in back of a b-train, some domestic flights for same day like stuff. Internal is easy to spot with a sticker on the side and stick it in a steel box I guess, but international its another brown box/bag ex asia with wrongly filled out mass produced label that can't be easily segregated
Whilst the majority of freight my travel by air, The more potentially hazardous freight will go by freighters that are dedicated no passengers flights.

I've had tracked stuff that said it was waiting for clearance when it was in fact already in my possession.

I was just thinking that. The only material difference between a courier and the post is (allegedly) the speed of delivery.
Frankly most couriers are so bad as soon as the delivery is outside an urban centre that you may as well use post.
Slightly relevant experience related to Youshop.
I ordered a Sony camera and had it sent to Youshop and of course it contains LiOn batteries. It was okay since the camera was in original manufacturing packaging and the battery inside the camera. No delays in getting it here.
I then ordered a refurbished BT headset and had it sent to Youshop who refused to forward it. On further queries it was because it had a LiOn battery and was not in the original manufacturer's packaging (being refurbished). I had a choice of having it disposed of or forwarded at my cost to another US address. I chose the latter.
I am trying to buy a new battery for my Moto Z phone but nobody on Ebay will send it to NZ because of the battery issue so I have tried Ali. I hope it doesn't get held up.
Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD. https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
Thats interesting about the original packaging. I bought a camera and included battery locally and it couriered to me fine, but I ordered some cheap accessories for it (uv filter / polariser / ND filter and spare battery) from B&H and they wouldn't ship the battery.
So you guys reckon if I order a FIRE HD 10 tablet (or two, US$99 at the mo) it / they should be OK as they're in original packaging as they'll have to come via Youshop as well ?
Edit: and I guess Youshops site says no problem for the built in stuff
