Mooseboy: I've just finished watching the entire series start to end, and it was great. Every episode was awesome.

Except the last one.

*SPOILERS BE HERE*

The fact that they end it with "Oh, they're dead" really ruined it for me. Maybe its just because I don't believe in the afterlife or anything, but I found their time at the Dharma initiative was much more explantory, and everything after that kind of went down hill. The temple and all the other spiritual stuff? Meh, give me more sci-fi.

Mabey the creators were trying to achieve a balance between sci-fi and religion?

freitasm: I never watched *any* episode of Lost. And I don't think I missed anything. Similar thing happened to The X Files... After season 7 they could've just finished it, but they kept it going - without Mulder - for another two seasons. What a waste.

X Files was awsome.

Not when the T-1000 (I don't know the actor's name) came in to the scene though.
Isn't the T1000 from Terminator?

Yes, but same actor. That's why the reference.

I was really disappointed with the ending. i wasted so many hours watching it and feel bitter.

they could have explained dharma, the teleporting, the time jumps, desmonds weird phasing, the egyptian artifacts, mrs widmore's weird knowledge of timelines... anything!

it could have been the most rewarding series ever watched, and if the writers were stuck for ideas, they needed only browse the theories on the forums and picked the coolest.

It was like the writers went: keep watching everyone, we're about to explain everything. nearly there... nearly there, OMG WHAT IS THAT THING BEHIND YOU?!! *runs away*

SepticSceptic: Gave up on Lost at end of Season 3. I tried to pick it up a couple of times over the last year or so, no avail. sat on the Tivo for a few months, then deleted. Aha I thought, maybe the final season would explain all - nah, still lost :-)

Started well, but too much jumping backwards, forwards, sideways, etc. No coherency

Ditto with Heroes - started well, but gave up thru the second season. Even my teenage kids really enjoyed the first season. Now, they can't be bothered with it.

Life's too long to watch bad TV :-)

+1.

Lazy storytelling. Too many new plot lines with zero resolution of any existing ones...

I havent watched Lost, but did follow Ashes to Ashes (the follow on from the English Life on Mars).

Ashes to Ashes just finished in the UK on Friday and I have to say they finished it really well - it was surprisingly sad really - though you sort of guessed what some of it was about beforehand.

People in the UK have been comparing the way the 2 series were wrapped up and tended to suggest Lost wasnt so good.

At least the UK TV series dont require quite so many hours of time investment in them.

I never understood the meaning of that show and why it was so popular... I watched two or three episodes and got bored after 20 minutes... the ending is really ridiculous... it's a cheap copy of what David Lynch did in Mulholland dr. ...and there are screenplay writers who are still trying to copy that kind of ending... it's silly :)

The American version of Life in Mars was a good one in terms of closure. They decided to can it after Season 1, but the last episode gave the explanations for everything that happened during the (short lived) series. Very good stuff. Worth watching it.

I agree.  At least Life on Mars fully explained everything at the end.  I too got 'lost' after season 2 and never bothered.  I thought this guy did a pretty good job of writing the whole "Lost" story up though, 6+ years in a nutshell http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=10647767 Some critics call it 'clever' and its supposed to be a reflection on humanity and all that deep guano, IMO I think the writers even got "lost" in their own brilliance.

That article was a good summation ! 3 different timelines - sheesh, no wonder things got confucius ! All that jumping back, forwards and sideways ...

Seems to be a new fad at the moment with TV scriptwriters - introducing "flashbacks". Lost, Flashforward, Heroes, to name but a few. It's like they can't write a coherent script, or they are not sure of future funding, so they run with these random insertions to extend plotlines or introduce new ones.

Bah!
