My UFB install completed today. They had to use joiners in couple of places as installer accidently had 'kink' in the fibre when he was feeding it through the house. I don't think so it affects the performance in anyway. Also the fibre got stuck outside the house when feeding it from the cabinet so they had to dig it and feed it through with hand from outside to ETP.

I am very happy. Snap has been awesome and UFF guys in Hamilton along with Transfield have been very helpful.

Do whatever you want to do man.

I had someone come around and "Scope the work". took photos and stuff. I thought that was what the last guy was doing. maybe its one step closer to getting an install date.

gustov:

You seem to be blissfully unaware that the speed of the installation is ENTIRELY out of the control of the service provider - be that Telecom or any other provider. And in certain cases it is even out of Chorus's control (council consent for footpath digging etc). If the OP were to cancel his Telecom order and go to another provider at this stage, not only would the process have to start all over again, but the delay he is experiencing now would be repeated. If the network were already in place then the connection would take only a matter of hours at the Telecom end.

I work in the Telecom Fibre team and I am more than happy to look into the reason for the delay if the OP is happy to PM me with his name, phone number and DOB.

The point the original poster made was that he wanted to stay with Telecom. Well his loyalty has cost him. apparently.

I've enjoyed residential fibre for 11 months now because I wasn't prepared to wait for Telecom's offerings. I left your company, because this time last year there were already ISP's offering UFB in my street and I took them up on their offer. Five days after signing up, my UFB was installed.

Good on you for defending your employer, but Telecom dragged its feet in offering UFB and other ISP's got the jump on them.

Chances are it was nothing to do with Telecom. In Nelson, We have only just decided on MDU boxes that are suitable and are up to Chorus standard. Being that I have done a few installs myself including ones going in for the school roll out, Its not as straight forward as you think.

Quick update.

Day 156 now. Had someone spray paint some lines on the drive about 3 weeks ago (which have mostly washed off now) but that's about it.

Day 207. There has been some progress. I have now a cable all the way to the outside of the house. Now just waiting on news when they will install the rest.

I was connected to Fireline server (LA) via speedtest.

It seems I am getting varied results depending on what servers I am connected to. I tried several based in LA and I am getting anywhere between 2-26Mb download speeds.

Thanks for the update - I've been finding the same with a number of the West Coast servers returning very low down speeds (e.g. 1.5 to 3.5 Mb) but the upward speeds being in the 10-20Mb range - I'm on 100/50 with Snap.
